Connecting, Nurturing, Creating for Sustainable Environment

RICS Hong Kong Annual Conference 2019

Business Environment Council is pleased to be a supporting organisation of RICS Hong Kong Annual Conference 2019 organised by RICS.

About the Event

In recent years, the catastrophic effects of climate change have zeroed into focus – raising the question of not just how cities can lower emissions, but how cities and business leaders should prepare for the challenges and uncertainties ahead. The loss due to climate change has estimated to reach US$200 billion in 2018.
The death and devastation caused by climate-born catastrophes such as Typhoon Mangkhut in Asia and the California Wildfires in the USA have served as a wakeup call to policymakers across the world. The need to address climate change and take a more aggressive shift towards sustainability has never been clearer – but it is also evident that whatever steps are taken, darker days are ahead which demand strong leadership and a resilient response. Hong Kong has the opportunity to navigate the region through the coming challenges, both as the example of a forward-thinking, sustainable city – and as an enterprising, connected hub leading the green finance movement.
The conference will begin by framing the regional and global dilemma, before examining sensible city planning for professionals and officials, and exploring how Hong Kong can place itself at the heart of the green revolution. Participants will come away with a better understanding of ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance), fresh perspectives on progressive investment trends, such as climate bonds – and the inspiration to help forge the resilient city future generations demand and deserve.
