Business Environment Council is pleased to be a supporting organisation of The 16th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition – Hong Kong Exhibition and Response Exhibition organised by The Hong Kong Institute of Architect Biennale Foundation and Hong Kong Arts Development Council

About the Event

The theme of the Hong Kong Exhibition this year is “Vertical Fabric: density in landscape” curated by Professor WANG Weijen. A mural on “One Belt and One Road” at the entrance will serve as a prelude to the exhibition, in addition to more than 100 towers by 100 architects from Hong Kong and other cities, showing the high-density urban space in Hong Kong, as well as the exhibits concerning transportation construction, the transport oriented development in Hong Kong for instance, have brought in the notion of shared principles of development in the “One Belt and One Road” cities on one hand, and Hong Kong as a vanguard role in the development of the cities on the other hand. By installing 100 towers marching along the courtyard extending into exhibition rooms in Venice, the exhibition illustrates the compactness of Hong Kong’s urban form. The exhibition and an “One-belt-one-road Forum provide a platform of dialogue with the world, shaping a discourse of Hong Kong’s urbanism and vertical architecture, and how Hong Kong architects apply it in the cities along the belt and road while preserving and respecting their unique local culture and traditions. More importantly, the venue provides architects with an opportunity to re-think the design of tower typology beyond, incubating visions for vertical freespace facing global challenges in technology, environment, society and culture.
