The property and construction sector contributes 39% of energy-related global carbon dioxide emissions. In Hong Kong, buildings accounts for over 90% of electricity consumption, translating into 60% of greenhouse emissions. In this session, industry leaders will showcase ongoing initiatives that transform energy consumption and management in construction sites and discuss ways to address ‘upfront carbon’ through innovation and collaboration.

Richard Lancaster
Chief Executive Officer, CLP Holdings Limited

Richard Lancaster is Chief Executive Officer of CLP Holdings, the parent company of the CLP Group which is one of the largest investor operators in the electricity industry throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Prior to assuming his current role in September 2013, he was Managing Director of CLP’s operations in Hong Kong, responsible for its electricity generation, transmission and distribution business serving 2.5 million customers in Hong Kong.

Besides serving in various subsidiary companies of the CLP Group as Director, Mr. Lancaster is the Chairman of Business Environment Council and a founding member of the Advisory Council of The Australian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong & Macau.  He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Management Association and a council member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and a member of its Climate and Energy Cluster Board.  He is also chairman of the Hong Kong Membership Committee of the UN-accredited World Energy Council.

 

 

 

Mr Simon Ng
Director  Policy & Research, Business Environment Council

Mr Simon Ng is Director – Policy & Research of Business Environment Council. He is responsible for BEC’s work on policy advocacy, thought leadership development, and collaborative research on various environmental issues that BEC focuses on. Trained as a geographer, Mr Ng is known for his ground-breaking work on ship emissions inventory in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta in which his collaboration with the shipping industry led to the launch of the Fair Winds Charter. He is also well regarded for his research and engagement work on walkability. Mr Ng has over 20 years of experience in academic/policy research, project management and stakeholder's engagement. Before joining BEC, he was Chief Research Officer of a leading independent public policy think tank and was a visiting scholar of a top university in Hong Kong. Mr Ng is also a member of many professional bodies of transport & logistics and environmental management. Internationally, Mr Ng is an Expert Member of the UNCRD Regional Environmentally Sustainable Transport Forum in Asia since 2006.

 

 

 

Mr Roland Hunziker
Director, Sustainable Buildings & Cities, World Business Council for Sustainable Development

Roland Hunziker is Director, Sustainable Buildings and Cities, at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), based in Geneva, Switzerland. He leads the Transforming the Built Environment project and manages the Council’s relationships with key city networks and stakeholders, notably through the City-Business Climate Alliance, a partnership with C40 and CDP he helped create. He serves as co-chair of the Steering Committee of the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction, whose mission is to drive the transformation to a zero emissions, efficient and resilient built environment. A Swiss national, Roland holds an MBA with distinction from INSEAD, France, and an MA in history and political science from the University of Zurich, Switzerland.

 

 

Mr Ivan Fu
Chairperson, Committee on Environment, Construction Industry Council

Mr Ivan Fu is a Director of LWK + PARTNERS and CEO of its holding company, with 30 years of industry experience. He has been extensively involved in projects across Greater China and Asia Pacific, while leading the Group through its diversification from architectural design into urban planning, interiors, landscape, heritage conservation and digitalisation. The Group employs over 1,400 members of staff.

Ivan is the Chairperson of Committee on Environment in Construction Industry Council. Ivan has been participating actively in various public platforms in Hong Kong and mainland China, including statutory bodies like Town Planning Board, Construction Industry Council, Urban Renewal Fund, Enhancing Self-Reliance Through District Partnership Programme and China Green Building Council. Ivan is particularly interested in conservation and sustainability in social and environmental sense. He involved in various forward looking projects to address social needs and environmental issues. Projects like Blue House, Light Housing, homeless home are well received by the public with social impact. He is appointed a Justice of the Peace and is a Medal of Honour recipient in Hong Kong SAR.

 

 

 

Ir Kin WK Leung
Head of Customer Business Development, The Hongkong Electric Co., Ltd.

Ir. (Engineer) Leung has over 25 years in the power industry with solid experiences in power plant and electric vehicle charging infrastructure projects, formulation and implementation of local electricity market and regulatory regime.

He is now the Head of Customer Business Development of HK Electric who oversees the funding and service schemes helping customers and the community in decarbonisation.  His responsible areas cover distributed renewable energy, renewable energy certificates, energy efficiency, electric mobility, smart and low-carbon lifesytle, and other decarbonisation and sustainability solutions for customers and community sectors.

He is a chartered electrical engineer, a member of HKIE and IET. He was the BEC CCBF Advisory Group Steering Committee member (2015-2019) and is the BEC Sustainable Living Environment Advisory Group Steering Committee member.  He is also a member of the HKGBC ACT-Shop Steering Group on promoting retro-commissioning, HK Electric’s representative in the Hong Kong E-Vehicles Business General Association (HKEV) and Electric Vehicle Association of Asia and the Pacific (EVAAP).

 

 

 

Mr John Haffner
General Manager – Sustainability, Hang Lung Properties Limited

Based in Hong Kong, John Haffner is General Manager - Sustainability, Hang Lung Properties Ltd., where he is responsible for formulating the Group-wide sustainability strategy and driving its execution.

John has more than two decades of experience in cleantech, infrastructure and sustainability, including past work experience in mainland China, Southeast Asia and Japan. Prior to joining Hang Lung, he led his own sustainability and infrastructure consultancy, was a registered foreign lawyer in Hong Kong, led business development in Asia for a renewable energy company, and worked in strategic planning at one of the largest power generators in North America.

A 2008 World Fellow at Yale University, John’s education includes two law degrees from McGill University, where he has also co-taught a seminar on Climate Change and Energy Law. He has more than 20 publications on the environment, energy and international affairs, and is proficient in Mandarin.

 

 

 

Ms Samanta Pong 
Executive Director, Shiu Wing Steel Ltd.

Samanta has been with Shiu Wing for 18 years. Shiu Wing is the leading steel manufacturer and rebar trading company in Hong Kong. The steel industry is highly carbon-intensive and Shiu Wing aims to reduce the upfront carbon of its products through responsible procurement and offering offsite prefabrication processing to its customers. In addition, Shiu Wing will commissions a 1-million kWh solar energy generation system in Hong Kong in Q1 2022 on the rooftop of its mill in Tuen Mun.

Samanta holds a Master of Engineering degree from University of Oxford. She is a member of the Council of Sustainable Development under the Environment Bureau and a Steering Committee member of the Circular Economy Advisory Group at the Business Environment Council.

 

 

 

Mr Patrick Ho
Sustainable Development Manager, Swire Properties Limited

Patrick is the Sustainable Development Manager of Swire Properties Limited. He develops and executes the Sustainable Development 2030 Strategy, action and communication plans across the operation of the Company’s global portfolio.

He is responsible for driving the corporate climate change strategy to facilitate the transition of the Company towards a net-zero pathway. He manages the works in the 1.5⁰C-aligned Science Based Targets for the global portfolio, embodied carbon assessment for new development projects, climate risk assessment on physical and transition risks, climate-related financial disclosures as per TCFD recommendations, and he also supports the Company’s green financing strategy including green bonds and sustainability-linked loans.

He has more than 15 years of consultancy and trainer experience on environmental management and corporate ESG / sustainability strategy in Hong Kong and China. He is a Chartered Environmentalist, a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and a Certified Carbon Auditor Professional.

Ms Emma Harvey 
Group Sustainability Manager, Gammon Construction Limited

Emma is Group Sustainability Manager for Gammon Construction Limited. She joined Gammon in 2015 and is responsible for advising on project-specific environmental issues as well as driving sustainability initiatives across Gammon. Her current focus is on implementation of their Responsible Growth – 25 by 25 sustainability strategy. Emma has 25 years' professional experience in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Ho Chi Minh City. Her background covers environmental consulting, multi-disciplinary project management, value and construction risk management facilitation, business development, sustainable urban planning, tourism planning and green buildings. Emma is a member of the Business Environment Council’s Climate Change Business Forum, the Executive Committee of the HK Institute of Environmental Impact Assessment, the HK Green Building Council’s Sustainable Development Committee, and serves as a Vice Chair of the British Chamber of Commerce’s Environment and Energy Committee.
