Mr. Stephen Siu, Senior Environmental Protection Officer, Environmental Protection Department

The Government has announced the plan to introduce a new mandatory producer responsibility scheme to enhance the management of waste glass bottles in Hong Kong. Pending the mandatory scheme in place, the Government has been encouraging the community to participate in source separation of waste to minimize waste and promote resource recovery. To promote local glass recycling, the Environmental Protection Department has liaised with different groups and provided support to them in implementing various voluntary glass bottle recycling programmes in specific trade and at local districts. In his presentation, Mr. Siu will give an update on the Glass Bottle Recycling in Hong Kong.

“Plastic: The Material that Binds the Planet”

Mr. Doug Woodring, Founder of Ocean Recovery Alliance and Co-Founder of Plastic Disclosure Project

Plastic is one of the most essential and useful materials in the society nowadays. It is widely adopted in various products and technologies. However, there is a growing concern about the impact of plastic on the ecosystem, climate change and human health from different stakeholders, including governments, the business sector and the general public.

Mr. Woodring will share a recent research which aims to help companies understand the risks and opportunities of plastic and build a business case for improving its management.
