Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence

BEC has been appointed by the Environmental Campaign Committee as one of the two consultantsesponsible for the preparation of the assessment guidelines as well as technical assessments of the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence ("HKAEE") and Hong Kong Green Organisation Certification ("HKGOC") participants.

Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence

The HKAEE aims to encourage businesses and organizations to adopt green management, and to present participants with an opportunity to benchmark and recognize their commitment to environmental protection.

The HKAEE is a successful merger of various government-initiated environmental schemes, namely the Hong Kong Eco-Business Awards and the Hong Kong Energy Efficiency Awards. By merging and extending these schemes, it will optimize the use of resources and serve as an integrated scheme to the wider business community.

Hong Kong Green Organisation Certification

Building on the success of various government initiated awards and BEC’s flagship Hong Kong Eco-Products Awards to promote environmental awareness in the community, HKGOC is a merger and extension of three recognition schemes, namely “Environmental Labels”, “Green Organisation Labels” and “Carbon Reduction Certificates” under the 2014 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence.  In line with government policy on the environment and the need of the community, the HKGOC aims to benchmark green organisations and encourage participant to adopt environmental practices in different aspects.  It also encourages participants to strive for self-improvement in specific environmental aspects.

In 2015, HKGOC consists of five Certification schemes, namely “Wastewi$e Certificate”, “Energywi$e Certificate”, “Productwi$e Certificate”, “IAQwi$e Certificate” and “Carbon Reduction Certificate”.  The former four certificates encourage initiatives on waste reduction, energy saving, improvement of product environmental attributes and improvement of indoor air quality ("IAQ") respectively.  They recognise those participants that have achieved specified environmental standard and goals.  For Carbon Reduction Certificate scheme, it encourages local buildings and organisations to identify and take measures to reduce their carbon footprints; to provide recognition to participant according to their levels of achievements in carbon footprint reduction; and to facilitate reporting of third-party verified achievements of overall carbon footprint reduction.

Organisations applying for these Certificates will be required to demonstrate their commitment in specific environmental aspects in order to grant a respective Certificate.  Organisations can join any of these Certificates at any time and there is no limit for the number of awardees.  They can further obtain “Hong Kong Green Organisation” ("HKGO") recognition by demonstrating the environmental practices in multiple aspects.  In addition, participants are highly encouraged to educate others, both organisations in the same sector and the community at large, on the benefits and practices of other environmental initiatives.  Information on the Wastewi$e, Energywi$e, IAQwi$e, Productwi$e Certificates and Carbon Reduction can be found in the individual Guidebooks.
