Ms Bronwen Thornton
CEO, Walk21

Bronwen is an international expert, facilitator and trainer on walking and walkable communities, giving walking a voice on the international stage and within local communities, cities and professional arenas. She has more than 20 years experience in strategic transport planning, community and political engagement, on-street analysis and creative development, and policy and project delivery with a focus on equitable and sustainable transport.

As CEO of Walk21 she works closely with international agencies to address global challenges and ensure walking is incorporated into the solutions, including climate change, road safety and public health, the Sustainable Development Goals and New Urban Agenda.  She leads on the annual international Conference series and strategic development of knowledge products and training.

She particularly likes to work in creative partnerships to inspire politicians and practitioners about the value of walking.

Bronwen is Chair of the Board of the Sustainable Low Carbon Transport Foundation (SLOCAT) and a Board member of the International Federation of Pedestrians.

 

Prof Billie Giles-Corti
Distinguished Professor and Director, Urban Futures Enabling Capability Platform, RMIT University

Professor Billie Giles-Corti is a Distinguished Professor at RMIT University, a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Senior Principal Research Fellow and the Director of the Healthy Liveable Cities Group in the Centre for Urban Research.  For over two decades, she and a multi-disciplinary research team have been studying the impact of the built environment on health and wellbeing. Between 2014 and 2020, she led an NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Healthy Liveable Communities.  She is a Technical Advisor of the Victorian Office of the Government Architect’s Design Review Panel, a member of the Victorian Planning Authority’s Precinct Structure Plan Review Committee, a board member of the Australian Urban Research Infrastructure Network, and an Honorary Fellow of both the Planning Institute of Australia and the Public Health Association.  She has published over 400 articles, book chapters and reports, and by citations, is ranked in the top 1% of researchers in her field globally.  She is Fulbright Scholar and in 2016, was awarded an NHMRC Elizabeth Blackburn Fellowship as the top ranked female NHMRC public health fellow.

 

Mr Patrick Fung
CEO, Clean Air Network
 

Patrick Fung is the Chief Executive Officer of the Clean Air Network, a non-profit organisation that dedicates its focus to clean up the air in Hong Kong. Since 2016, Patrick led Clean Air Network to spearhead public engagement programme to arouse conversation and actions on improving walkability, transport management and zero emission mobility in Hong Kong. Under Patrick's leadership, Clean Air Network has developed extensive collaboration with the air science, public health, urban planning professionals, and civil, international and business community.

Patrick has 10 years of experience at public / NGO sector. He currently serves in the steering committee of non-profit Walk DVRC, and was appointed by the HKSAR Government as expert member of the Air Quality Objectives Review Working Group during 2016-18.

 

Mr Roger Torino
Associate Planner, OTC Limited

Mr Roger Torino is currently Associate Planner and Practice Manager at OTC Limited, a Hong Kong-based consultancy specializing in transport terminal planning and design. At OTC, he has a diverse and wide-ranging portfolio of urban mobility and aviation projects across Asia, North America, and Europe, including prototypes for next-generation bus terminals in Singapore, as well as planning for the redevelopment of some of Mexico City’s busiest intermodal transfer stations. Mr Torino’s expertise combines an understanding of the macro-level forces driving transport and urban development with a talent for using quantitative analysis to inform the planning and design of facilities that optimize operations, elevate the passenger experience, and contribute to the improvement of the urban environment.

Prior to joining OTC Limited, Mr Torino worked as an urban planner in the United States and Mainland China. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

 

Mr Nicholas BrookeGBS, SBS, JP, FRICS, FHKIS
Asia Pacific Chairman, Urban Land Institute (ULI)

Nicholas Brooke who has lived in Hong Kong for the last 40 years is a Chartered Surveyor by profession and a Justice of the Peace (JP) and the Chairman of Professional Property Services Limited which is a specialist consultancy, based in Hong Kong, providing a selected range of advisory services across the Asia Pacific Region. He is a recognised authority on land administration and planning matters and is very much involved with a series of initiatives designed to improve the quality of life in Hong Kong and to enhance the built environment for the benefit of future generations. He has also participated in a number of major asset acquisitions and disposals, particularly in Asia and Europe and provided strategic advice to institutions and family offices looking to move into new markets.

In July 2018, Mr Brooke was elected as the Asia Pacific Chairman of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), of which he is also a Lifetime Trustee. ULI’s mission is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide.

Mr Brooke is also a keen advocate of the importance of innovation and technology here in Hong Kong and was closely involved with the establishment of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, joining the Board in May 2001 and leading the development of all three phases of Hong Kong Science Park until he stepped down as Chairman in June 2014.

Mr Brooke is also the immediate past Chairman of the Hong Kong Harbourfront Commission, the role of which is to co-ordinate the planning, design, implementation and management of the various initiatives around Victoria Harbour and he has also served on the Hong Kong Town Planning Board and the Hong Kong Housing Authority.

Mr Brooke was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS) by the Hong Kong Chief Executive on 1 July 2018 in recognition of his distinguished public and community service, particularly his significant contribution in championing the enhancement of Victoria Harbour, having previously received the Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS) in 2012 in recognition of his role in promoting innovation and technology development in Hong Kong.

Mr Simon Ng
Director, Policy & Research, Business Environment Council

Mr Simon Ng is Director – Policy & Research of Business Environment Council. He is responsible for BEC’s work on policy advocacy, thought leadership development, and collaborative research on various environmental issues that BEC focuses on. Trained as a geographer, Mr Ng is known for his ground-breaking work on ship emissions inventory in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta in which his collaboration with the shipping industry led to the launch of the Fair Winds Charter. He is also well regarded for his research and engagement work on walkability.
 
Mr Ng has over 20 years of experience in academic/policy research, project management and stakeholder's engagement. Before joining BEC, he was Chief Research Officer of a leading independent public policy think tank and was a visiting scholar of a top university in Hong Kong.
 
Mr Ng is also a member of many professional bodies of transport & logistics and environmental management. Internationally, Mr Ng is an Expert Member of the UNCRD Regional Environmentally Sustainable Transport Forum in Asia since 2006.
