The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Green Journey to Sustainability

Mrs Shirlee Algire, Executive Manager, Sustainability, The Hong Kong Jockey Club

Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club is a world-class horse racing operator and Hong Kong’s largest community benefactor, as well as one of Asia’s most prestigious membership clubs. Operating as a not-for-profit organisation, the Club allocates its surplus funds for charitable and community projects.

Mrs Algire will share the sustainability performance of the Club in terms of hoofprint management, people development, corporate wellness, staff and stakeholder engagement and community investment. She will also present the sustainability efforts across the Mainland border, where the Club has invested over RMB5.5 million in the Dongjiang afforestation project. This involves the planting of 350,000 new trees in this important ecological area and the newly afforested area will help mitigate climate change and enhance the local ecology and biodiversity, as well as providing new employment opportunities for local farmers.

Corporate Social Responsibility in Hong Kong Investment

Mr Mark Harper, Senior Manager – ESG Advisory, Business Environment Council

In his presentation, Mr Harper will give an overview on Environment, Social and Governance (“ESG”) reporting and highlight the importance of disclosing ESG information to stakeholders and the general public. He will also talk about the global drivers and key trends for companies in conducing ESG reporting, with particular focus on Hong Kong situation.
