New Typology of Sky Gardens for High-rise Urban Living

Mr Tony Ip, Associate, Deputy Director of Sustainable Design, Ronald Lu & Partners (Hong Kong) Limited

It is a common phenomenon in many high-rise compact cities: the higher we live from the ground level, the more disconnected we feel from the natural world and even from each other within a community. How can we improve this situation?

Sky gardens are semi-covered or covered communal green spaces at intermediate levels of high-rises, increasing green coverage apart from gardens at grade and roofs. Can sky gardens be an option of bridging the nature with urban living?

Mr Ip will talk about the contributing factors of sky gardens in promoting health and well-being of urban living, He will also highlight the upcoming trend of sky gardens in residential high-rises and share case studies in Hong Kong and Singapore.
