The Paris Agreement is a game-changer. 197 countries across the world committed to the overarching objective to keep global temperature rise below 2°C, with carbon neutrality in the second half of the century. However, for the Agreement to be effective, businesses need to set targets and reduce their emissions to meet the overarching objective.
As part of BEC Climate Change Business Forum Advisory Group’s Low Carbon Hong Kong project, this report aims to convey to our members and the wider business community why it is important for them to set carbon reduction targets in line with this 2°C maximum. It explains the extent of the change needed across a number of key Hong Kong sectors to achieve this goal, and the methodologies available for setting these targets. It aims to support Hong Kong businesses keep up with the transition that is now underway, and play their part in achieving this critical goal.
In this event, you will learn more about:
- Why should businesses set 2°C carbon reduction targets?
- How far and how fast do we need to reduce our emissions for a 2°C maximum?
- What are the methodologies available for setting long-term targets?
- How can you initiate this process within your company?
