In Hong Kong, approximately 65% of greenhouse gas emissions are from buildings, which consume 90% of electricity generated. Over 60% of buildings energy usage can be attributed to commercial buildings, including office and hotel buildings. Energy usage also means costs with many buildings having energy bills of over HKD $1million a year, and despite excellent progress in reducing other emissions to our atmosphere, this also adds to air pollution.
To help manage our energy usage, beneficial for our climate, for our health, and for reducing business costs, this BEC project’s outputs, focus on how to retrofit existing commercial buildings. They offer practical means for reducing demand and give companies – sustainability teams, building managers, and finance teams - the information they need to help make investment decisions.
The outputs to be launched at this event on 12 December 2017 are:
- A Guide: providing users with information on key energy-saving technologies and initiatives: costs & energy savings, payback periods, and applicability to different building types.
- A Retrofit Calculator: an easy-to-use excel tool designed to estimate the costs and energy saving performance of individual technologies and initiatives with user-customized specifications.
We warmly invite BEC Members, Building Owners, Facility Managers, Sustainability Managers and all that are interested to join the launch event. You will find out more about the Guide and Tool and also how they relate to the Government’s priorities and programme.
This project has been funded by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and steered by BEC’s Energy Advisory Group,
