In light of Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050 published in early October, this third and final webinar under the Leadership Forum Series 2021 co-organised by BEC and Invest Hong Kong will focus on one of the four decarbonisation strategies highlighted by the Government: energy saving and green buildings. Our keynote speaker, Secretary for the Environment Mr K.S. Wong will be joined by local experts on buildings, energy efficiency and innovations to showcase and discuss real actions in decarbonising buildings in Hong Kong.

Mr K.S. Wong
Secretary for the Environment, Hong Kong SAR Government

Mr K.S. Wong was born in 1963 and graduated from the Department of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong.  He received further education on sustainable built environment in the postgraduate program from the University of British Columbia in Canada.  He assumed the post of the Secretary for the Environment of the HKSAR Government on 1 July 2012.

As an architect by profession, Mr Wong has been promoting sustainable built environment since 1990s.  His designs and researches on sustainable built environment have won him various local, regional and international awards.  He served as the founder Chairman of the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Chairman of the Professional Green Building Council and the Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Green Building Council, and has contributed to the promotion and research of the standards and guidelines for sustainable built environment applicable to the high-density urban environment of Hong Kong.

During his tenure as the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong has launched and updated a number of policy blueprints covering air quality, waste management, energy saving, climate actions and biodiversity.

 

 

Dr Vincent Cheng
Director of Building Sustainability Group, ARUP

Dr Vincent Cheng is a Fellow and Director of Sustainability of Arup in East Asia. He leads a group of engineers and specialists practicing primarily on sustainable developments and low carbon building design in the region. He leads the District Cooling System projects in many districts in Hong Kong, including Kai Tak Development, West Kowloon Cultural District and New Development Areas at Kwu Tung North, Tung Chung East, Hung Shui Kiu and Lok Ma Chau Loop. His team has developed the BEAM Plus NB V2 and Building Energy Codes (2012, 2015, 2018 and 2021) in Hong Kong. Under his leadership, Arup was awarded as “the BEAM Consultant with most BEAM Plus Final and Provisional Platinum Projects” by HKGBC in 2015.

Dr Cheng serves in various government and professional bodies on energy and sustainability of Hong Kong, currently as Board of Director of Hong Kong Green Building Council, Member of Energy Advisory Committee of Environment Bureau, Expanded Building Committee and Technical Committee on Design and Construction Requirements for Energy Efficiency of Buildings of Buildings Department to provide advice on sustainable building issues. Dr Cheng sees the importance of educating young talents to service the industry and the community. He is the Chairman of Advisory Committee of the School of Energy and Environment of CityU since its inception in 2009.

He has written a book titled “Building Sustainability in East Asia”, published by Wiley in 2017, to promote the importance of sustainability to the industry and public. Recently, he has been awarded as the Sustainability Leader of the Year in the HKMA Hong Kong Sustainability Award 2018/19.

 

 

Mr Jim Taylor
Senior Director – Planning & Development, CLP Power Limited

Jim has been with China Light & Power in Hong Kong since 2001, after moving from Melbourne, Australia. Jim is Senior Director – Planning & Development at CLP Power Hong Kong, where he is responsible for supporting the company's future long term strategic development and regulatory regime.

Jim has extensive senior management experience of electricity, gas and environmental issues with leading companies in both regulated and deregulated energy markets in the UK and Australia.   Prior to his current role in CLP, Jim has been responsible for the company's long term strategic planning and the interface with the Hong Kong Government for the operation of the Scheme of Control, with earlier appointments covering retail strategy, CLP’s largest customers, energy efficiency & conservation and tariff design.

 

 

Mr Jonathan Chiu
President, Schneider Electric (Hong Kong) Limited

Jonathan Chiu is President of Schneider Electric (Hong Kong) Limited. Appointed to this role in February 2019, he is responsible for overseeing the company’s overall strategy, operations and business transformation. Jonathan joined Schneider Electric in 1996 and has accumulated more than two decades of experience in various managerial positions. He has been a key driving force in Schneider Electric’s business growth and in consolidating the company’s market leadership in the Greater China region.  


Prior to his current role, Jonathan was the Vice President of Partner and Channel covering Low-voltage Power Products and Digital Energy Business of Schneider Electric Hong Kong. He also led the Secure Power Division which drives the businesses of IT channel and mission-critical data centers in Hong Kong. Previously, Jonathan also served as the General Manager of APC by Schneider Electric, and a member of the Senior Leadership Team of APC Greater China. Jonathan’s experience across the breadth of businesses and his in-depth understanding of digital technologies form Schneider Electric’s mission to be a digital partner in sustainability and efficiency for customers. He is also passionate about empowering businesses to digitally transform throughout the life cycle with innovative strategies and trusted technology.  


Jonathan holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the University of Hong Kong, a Master of Business Administration from City University of Hong Kong and a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA Program. 

 

 

Mr Arthur Lam
CEO & Founder, Negawatt

Arthur Lam is the co-founder, CEO and director of Negawatt Utility Limited , an AIoT (Artificial Intelligent of Things) startup specializing in ESG with smart building digitization solutions.  As a serial entrepreneur with over 13 years in property technologies with the focus on sustainability, he was the Co Founder and Vice Chairman of Synergy Group, a publicly listed company on HKEx Main Board specializing in Energy Management Contracts with businesses across APAC and Africa. He is a certified Carbon Audit Professional and a certified Energy Manager of The Association of Energy Engineers (Hong Kong Chapter).  He graduated from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, United States, with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in May 2008.  He was an Associate in Myo Capital Advisers Limited from November 2008 to June 2009.

 

 

 

Ir Priscilla Wong 
General Manager – Building Services, Chinachem Group

Ir Priscilla Wong is a Chartered Engineer (Mechanical) with extensive experience in project management and sustainable built environment. She is the General Manager – Building Services and Sustainability Steering Committee Member of the Chinachem Group. Priscilla leads a team of E&M Engineers and Sustainability Specialists to work on all aspects of E&M and sustainability for the Group.

 

 

Ir Raymond Poon
Deputy Director, Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, Hong Kong SAR Government

Ir Raymond KY POON is the Deputy Director of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.  He is overseeing the enforcement of legislations in ensuring public safety on using electricity, gas, railway and other electrical and mechanical installations, and promoting energy efficiency and conservation as well as application of renewable energy in Hong Kong.

Ir POON has been working in the government for over 25 years and taken up professional and managerial roles in the areas of engineering services, project management, business development as well as regulatory enforcement.  Ir POON received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Master of Science degree in Environmental Management from the University of Hong Kong.  He has also obtained his EMBA degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2019.

Ir POON is a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and he was the Chairman of the HKIE Biomedical Division in Session 2017/18, Member of HKIE Council in Sessions 2018-2020.  He is now serving as a Member of the HKIE Fellowship Committee.

Mr Andy Wong
Head of Innovation & Technology, Invest Hong Kong

Mr Andy Wong is the Head of Innovation and Technology at InvestHK.  He leads a team of technology specialists to focus on attracting and facilitating overseas investments in Hong Kong for setting up and expanding their business operations.  His key focused technology clusters include biomedical, medical devices, healthcare services, AI and robotics, microelectronics and environmental. 

Mr Wong has wealth strategy consulting and business development experience in the technology sector.  Prior to InvestHK, Mr Wong was a consulting director at PwC and at Cisco Systems where he led the technology consulting team to help corporate undertake business transformation through applications of advanced technologies and best practice processes.

Mr Wong graduated from the University of Birmingham, the UK in Electronic and Electrical Engineering and has a Master Degree in Business and Accounting from the University of New South Wales, Australia.  Mr Wong is a Chartered Engineer in the UK and a CPA from Australia.
