Embodied carbon refers to the greenhouse gases emitted during the lifecycle of a material from extraction through to manufacturing, transportation and installation. In the context of buildings and construction, it is associated with the manufacture of construction materials, the construction process, and even end-of-life demolition and treatment. World Green Building Council (WGBC) suggests that 11% of global carbon emissions are a result of embodied carbon, reflecting its importance in long-term decarbonisation. This webinar draws on local and international expertise to discuss embodied carbon trends and experiences with its management.
