Business Environment Council Limited (“BEC”) today organised its biannual signature event “BEC CEO Dialogue”, attracting leaders, professionals and experts from different industries of the business sector to join.
With the theme of “Strategic Leadership in Leveraging Energy Transition Opportunities”, Mr Peter Wong, Managing Director of The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (“Towngas”), was invited as our honourable guest to exchange views with Ms Anne Yu, Board Director of BEC, and Mr Simon Ng, Chief Executive Officer of BEC, on how to lead companies strategically in leveraging new opportunities amid energy transition.
Mr Simon Ng said, “Climate change, which is one of the Environmental Focus Areas of BEC, is without doubt a major challenge to the business sector and to all mankind. Transition to renewable energy is a key solution to overcoming the climate challenge and achieving net zero. Through today’s CEO Dialogue, we are pleased to have gained valuable insights from Towngas on their strategic visions of accelerating the energy transition in alignment with Hong Kong’s 2050 carbon neutrality goal.”
Mr Peter Wong said, “Towngas’ vision is to be a leading clean and smart energy supplier, with a view to creating a sustainable world driven by green energy. Being an energy company, we are more conscious of our environmental and climate impacts. In the face of the current climate crisis, we see it as an opportunity rather than a challenge. For example, in recent years, we have been developing renewable businesses including zero-carbon smart industrial parks on the Chinese mainland, as well as converting biomass and organic waste resources into energy to turn energy production ‘from grey to green’. All these aim to meet the demand for low-carbon and zero-carbon products. Another key development of ours is to actively explore the feasibility of extracting hydrogen from our gas pipelines. By making use of our territory-wide pipeline network to provide hydrogen energy to different areas, we strive to promote the development of new energy in Hong Kong.”
“BEC CEO Dialogue” is a new signature event of BEC launched in the year of 2022 which marks the 30th Anniversary of the organisation, aiming to provide a platform for idea exchange and experience sharing among business leaders and senior executives.
