Business Environment Council (“BEC”) published its Sustainability Report 2022 today, which describes how BEC the organisation collaborates with its extensive network of over 230 corporate members, stakeholders, and the wider business community to promote environmental excellence and contribute to Hong Kong's transition towards a net-zero economy.
Covering BEC’s approach to sustainability including our strategy, targets, initiatives and performances for the fiscal year from 1 October 2021 to 30 September 2022, the Sustainability Report illustrates how BEC practises sustainability and enables sustainability. During the reporting period, BEC delivered 129 environmental projects, organised 22 events and seminars, and issued submitted 4 policy submissions presenting the voice of business in relation to critical environmental issues to the Chief Executive Policy Address, the public engagement on control of single-use plastics, and the alternative model for producer responsibility scheme on plastic beverage containers.
Mr Kevin O'Brien, Chairman of BEC, shared in the Report, "In 2022 and the preceding years, we witnessed several megatrends and challenges that are impacting the world. All these emerging trends and factors were considered by the Management Team and the Board of Directors, and informed our latest strategy review in 2022, with the conclusion that ‘Climate Change’, ‘Circular Economy’, and ‘Sustainable Living Environment’ will remain BEC’s focus areas in the next three years. We are also determined to leverage BEC’s 30 years of experience and growing influence on public policy and corporate action, and step up our effort in facilitating and accelerating business ambition into action.”
