Harbour Business Forum (“HBF”) and Business Environment Council Limited (“BEC”) organised the “Meet Our Teams” event for the “Victoria Harbour 2035: Destinations to Rejuvenate Hong Kong” Competition on 9 January at BEC Auditorium and Exhibition Hall, offering a valuable opportunity for participants to connect with their peers, mentors, jury members and sponsors of the competition.
Urban design and sustainability experts were invited to the event for a dynamic panel discussion on “Unlocking Potential: Exploring Opportunities for Harbourfront Development”, which inspired participants and shed light on innovative approaches to harbourfront development. Additionally, participating teams raised questions in relation to their assigned catchment site in the competition during the Q&A session.
The competition has attracted eight teams from four esteemed local universities, namely The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and City University of Hong Kong. These teams are encouraged to unleash their creativity and propose practical designs for their assigned catchment site under the guidance of professional mentors for their final submission to be made on or before 15 March.
Mr Mark Peacock, Chair of the HBF, said, “Launching this competition, HBF is excited to be collaborating with BEC to provide this unique opportunity for the next generation to contribute to Victoria Harbourfront’s development. Together we seek to preserve and promote a genuinely vibrant, accessible and sustainable harbourfront. We look forward to reviewing the creative and practical submissions of the teams and would like to thank the sponsors, mentors and jury members for making this competition happen.”
Mr Simon Ng, Chief Executive Officer of BEC, said, “Creating an attractive, diverse, vibrant, accessible, sustainable and inclusive harbourfront is a shared vision for all Hong Kong citizens. BEC is excited to engage the city’s best young talents to come up with compelling and innovative designs for our harbourfront. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all sponsors, mentors, and jury members for their unwavering support for this competition.”
Engaging the next generations as future custodians of our harbourfront, “Victoria Harbour 2035: Destinations to Rejuvenate Hong Kong” Competition aims to encourage and collect input to the strategic visioning of the harbourfront and solicit students’ aspirations for the future of Hong Kong. The competition also serves as a platform for students to meet future potential employers and gain valuable real-life project experience, while raising the profile of harbourfront issues among businesses, citizens, media and public authorities.
