Traditionally, cement production has been a significant source of CO2 emissions, so the decarbonisation of cement production is crucial to a sustainable future. BEC presented a technical visit to Green Island Cement Plant on 30 August (Friday) to observe environmentally friendly production process, and to learn about the innovative technologies behind.
Green Island Cement has been a leading manufacturer and distributor of cement products in Hong Kong since 1887. Over the past decade, they have conducted a series of successful trial burns to demonstrate the adequacy of multiple high-caloric solid wastes as alternative fuels, thus reducing the reliance on coal consumption. Furthermore, in 2021, they introduced the Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) as a sustainable choice for construction, making a remarkable breakthrough in the development of environmentally conscious practices.
