Together with Wheelock Properties, BEC is pleased to present a technical visit to the transitional housing project “Lok Sin Village” on Friday 15 November, to learn about the sustainable elements and green technologies in this collaborative project with Lok Sin Tong. Initiated by the Government, this project transformed unused agricultural land into a vibrant residential community, providing short-term accommodation for those in need. Lok Sin Village also stands as the largest transitional housing project in Tai Po, featuring 1,236 residential units and benefiting around 10,000 residents over its eight-year lifespan.

This project underscores Wheelock Properties' dedication to sustainable development by reusing, recycling and relocating Modular Integrated Construction (“MiC”) components, conducting ecological assessments to minimise environmental impact, and incorporating flood prevention measures into the construction process. Innovative techniques were employed throughout construction to accelerate the process and enhance environmental sustainability.

Visit Highlights

  • Explore the first re-used MiC method from existing projects
  • Understand how the “Dumbbell” shape stormwater catchment system addresses the climate change challenges and enhances resident resilience
  • Discover the reduced construction scope designed to protect mangroves and conserve local biodiversity
  • Visit the transitional housing show flats, showcasing initiatives aimed at re-energising the community, enhancing residents’ wellness, and implementing community-friendly and environmental beneficial measures
  • Exchange ideas with experts from Wheelock Properties
