Business Environment Council Limited (“BEC”) hosted its flagship event, BEC EnviroSeries Conference, with the theme “Powering Green Growth: Accelerating and Financing Green Tech Innovation and Adoption in Hong Kong” at Cordis Hotel, Hong Kong on 27 May. The Conference was held in hybrid mode, attracting over 800 participants, both in-person and online, including government representatives, business leaders, entrepreneurs, industry experts, academics and other interested participants from Hong Kong and abroad.
In his opening address, Mr Kevin O’Brien, Chairman of BEC, remarked, “The theme of this conference is timely and essential. As a global financial hub and gateway to Asia, Hong Kong is uniquely positioned to lead the change in driving innovation at the intersection of technology, finance, and sustainability. The city possesses robust financial infrastructure and expertise to provide the perfect environment for fostering green technology initiatives that can have a profound impact locally and regionally, leading the region towards sustainability.”
The Conference featured four inspiring sessions, namely “Mobilising Capital for Green Tech Innovation”, “Tech-Driven Business Innovation: Resilient and Greener Operations”, “Green City and Smart Growth: Sustainable Development through Technology”, and “Climate Resilience: Artificial Intelligence and Big Data in Risk Forecasting and Adaptation”. The programme equipped attendees with knowledge on how Hong Kong can leverage its financial hub capacity to nurture green technologies, adopt innovative solutions to support business and sustainable urban development, and utilise artificial intelligence and big data to improve climate risk frameworks, ultimately accelerating net-zero actions.
The Conference also included an exhibition area, where participants could explore booths from various companies showcasing innovative green technology solutions. This exhibition highlighted best practices and advancements that support Hong Kong's climate goals. Attendees were pleased to visit these booths to discover new tools and strategies for enhancing their sustainability efforts.
