Business Environment Council Present EnviroSeries Conference To Explore Solutions to Waste Problem in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, 24 April 2019 - Business Environment Council Limited 商界環保協會有限公司 (“BEC”) will host its flagship event, the EnviroSeries Conference on Friday, 17 May 2019. With the theme of “The Business of Waste – Solving Hong Kong’s Urgent Environmental Problem”, the Conference will serve as a platform for business leaders, government officers, policy makers and entrepreneurs to explore the problems, opportunities and future strategies in Hong Kong’s waste management system, and to inspire innovative thinking and actions for a more sustainable Hong Kong. Mr Wong Kam-sing, GBS, JP, Secretary for the Environment has agreed to be the Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker at the event.

In view of the surging per capita municipal solid waste disposal rate, the Environment Bureau announced last year that municipal solid waste charging would be implemented by late 2020 at the earliest, with an aim to drive behavioural changes. Producer responsibility schemes have also been put in place to reduce waste at source. In support of the policy, this EnviroSeries Conference is set to share and demonstrate business sector commitment in reducing, reusing and recycling waste.
