BEC supports the Energy Saving Charter and 4Ts Charter
BEC is pleased to join the Energy Saving Charter 2017 and 4Ts Charter Scheme launched by the Hong Kong Government with an aim to save energy and reduce carbon emission in Hong Kong. These initiatives are also part of the BEC Headquarters Transformation Project.
Under the 4Ts Charter, we target to reduce by 7.5% the energy use of our Headquarters Building by Year 19/20 using Year 14/15 as base year. Some initiatives being considered include installing oil-free variable speed air-cooled chiller, optimising the operation schedule of building services equipment, carrying out retro-commissioning, and conducting collaborative energy reduction programme with our building users.
To support the Energy Saving Charter, we have carried out various measures to enhance energy efficiency of our Headquarters Building, such as maintaining average indoor air temperature between 24-26°C during the summer, switching off appliances and systems not being used, procuring energy efficient appliances and systems, and engaging staff to adopt energy saving practices.
BEC joined the judging session of Primary STEM Project Exhibition
BEC was pleased to be one of the judges of this year’s Primary STEM Project Exhibition, with the theme on simple and green lifestyle.
BEC received Charter on External Lighting Platinum Award
BEC was awarded with a Platinum Award from the Charter on External Lighting which recognises our efforts in fulfilling the switch-off requirement under the Charter.
BEC received Indoor Air Quality Good Class Certificate
BEC Headquarters Building received a Good Class certificate from the Indoor Air Quality Scheme which recognises offices and public places with good indoor air quality management practice.
BEC joined the judging panel of SDGs short video competition
Our Director of Green Building & IAQ, Ir CF Leung joined the judging panel of the short video competition under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Junior Ambassador Programme which recruits primary students to film short videos to promote SDGs.

9 - 14 July: Upcycling Floral Design Exhibition at BEC Exhibition Hall
This exhibition will display floral design art pieces made of discarded materials including glass, plastics, aluminium, wood and paper. All participating artists are graduates of a professional floral design certificate programme co-organised by The City University of Hong Kong and Institut de Artflor.
14 July: Industry Visit to Alliance’s Concrete Batching Plant
This Industry Visit will offer you an exclusive opportunity to visit Alliance’s new mega concrete batching plant in Tsing Yi Island, a fully automated plant with maximum daily production capacity of 3,000m3. You can also learn more about the plant’s advanced pollution control facilities.

In these CIRCULAB Discovery workshops, participants explore opportunities and innovative ideas of circular economy through a series of fun-filled activities.
12 June: Energy Efficiency Technologies Mini-Expo and Seminar: Energy Savings for Hotel and F&B Sectors
BEC successfully held the mini-expo gathering with over 100 energy saving technology suppliers and executives from hospitality and F&B sectors to share and learn the latest trends and technologies of energy efficiency.
22 June: Big Data for Corporate Sustainability
As big data has become a common business term, BEC recently held a seminar on Big Data for Corporate Sustainability to de-mystify big data science and inspire businesses to use data to promote corporate sustainability.

Opening Ceremony of BEC Public Education Programme on Marine Biodiversity
The opening ceremony of Marine Biodiversity Roving Exhibition was successfully held on 3 June at Sunshine City Plaza, Ma On Shan and was followed by the first roving exhibition.The next exhibition will be held on 8 -12 July at Landmark North, Sheung Shui along with a series of eco-tours.

BEC collaborated with Exchange Tower to promote waste reduction
To facilitate the implementation of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) charging, since 2016 BEC has collaborated with Exchange Tower, a property managed by Sino Property Services, to implement the “Waste Reporting & Reduction in Office Buildings Programme”. To further promote waste reduction and clean recycling, BEC recently set up an exhibition booth with interactive games at Exchange Tower which was well received by the tenants.

This course will introduce some essential knowledge of planning and implementation for transforming an EB to a certified green building, and will highlight the major amendments in the new version of BEAM Plus EB V2.0.
