Fostering Sustainable Consumption for Hong Kong Business and Community
Funded by the Council for Sustainable Development, BEC is going to launch a cross-sector sustainable consumption platform in Q3 this year under the “Fostering Sustainable Consumption for Hong Kong Business and the Community” programme.
This platform, which comprises of a Guide, a website and a mobile application, aims to promote sustainable consumption and procurement practices in business sector and the wider community. It is an initiative that supports the Sustainable Development Goal 12 “Responsible Consumption and Production” established by the United Nations in 2015.
In addition to the platform, a Recognition Scheme will also be launched to invite companies to participate as “Sustainable Consumption Enterprise” or “Sustainable Product Supplier”. Presentation Ceremony for 2016 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE)
The prize presentation ceremony of HKAEE was held on 4 May to recognise strong commitment and efforts by organisations on environmental protection. As one of the organisers of the awards, BEC congratulates all the winners.

BEC joined the judging session of Primary STEM Project Exhibition
BEC was pleased to be one of the judges of this year’s Primary STEM Project Exhibition, with the theme on simple and green lifestyle.
BEC Public Education Programme on Marine Biodiversity
In order to promote community awareness on biodiversity and introduce to the public the wealth of marine biodiversity in Hong Kong, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department has commissioned BEC to organise a roving exhibition "Hong Kong Marine Biodiversity" in five districts from June to October 2017.

8 May: Low Carbon Hong Kong Report Launch
BEC released its latest report “Low Carbon Hong Kong: Supporting Business to Set Targets” on 8 May. Under Secretary for the Environment, Ms Christine Loh; Assistant Director of Hong Kong Observatory, Mr Edwin Lai and a hundred business representatives joined our report launch event to exchange views on how companies set carbon reductions targets. Jinchat opens the first Danfoss Turbocor Oil-free Compressor Service Center
Jinchat Engineering (HK) Co. Ltd. has recently opened Hong Kong’s first Danfoss Turbocor Oil-free Compressor Service Center. A launch ceremony was held in April to celebrate this special occasion. Oil-free chiller is widely used in Hong Kong and around the world as a means to increase energy efficiency in buildings. This new service center not only provides better support service to property management companies and building owners but also facilitates the development of oil-free technology in Hong Kong.
Opening of Swire Properties’ Sustainable Development Exhibition Centre “The Loop”
“The Loop” is Swire Properties’ first-ever, sustainable development exhibition centre – located in the heart of Taikoo Place. This interactive space aims to increase environmental awareness and encourage Taikoo Place tenants and the wider community to incorporate sustainable practices into their business operations and their everyday lives.
The well-known recycling phrase “close the loop”, which refers to the principle that all resources can be recycled and reused, inspired the name “The Loop”.
Located inside Devon House and spanning 4,000 sq ft, The Loop features a retrospective exhibition of the company’s sustainability work in Quarry Bay, recycling centre, food waste composter, green wall and dedicated space for urban farming, as well as an “Eco-art installation”.

ESS is designed to encourage the private sector to invest in research and development with funding up to HK$10 million per project. Companies registered in Hong Kong are eligible to apply.
