In this event, four aspects of the transport system will be discussed - Private Vehicles & Taxis, Public Transport, Trucks & Delivery Vehicles, and Walking & Cycling. 5 July 2016: Responsible Investment Workshop - Taking Into Account Climate Risk
This workshop will explore the value to investors in relation to account climate risk and resilience, as well as the carbon intensity of the business and the risk of stranded assets. It will also explore different reporting frameworks from CDP, GRI and the HKEx and how they can be used for better disclosure of the above information to investors.
Key players in the investment sector including asset owners, investment managers and analysts, will also be invited for a discussion on methodologies and systems to embed responsible investment from a climate risk perspective into your systems.

8 July 2016: BEC Industry Visit to T ▪ PARK
As the Hong Kong’s first self-sustained sludge treatment facility, T·PARK is one of the most technologically advanced facilities of its kind in the world. Combining a variety of advanced technologies into a single complex, T·PARK brings together sludge incinerators with a treatment capacity of up to 2,000 tonnes of sludge per day, with power generation, desalination, educational and ecological facilities to showcase the benefits of the waste-to-energy approach in waste management.
The visit to this state-of-the-art sludge treatment facility will allow participants to learn more about the transformation of waste into energy, which is a key part in the waste management strategy for Hong Kong, and enjoy the educational and recreational facilities offered by the Environmental Education Centre of T·PARK, as well as recognising the importance of recycling and environmental protection.

29 July 2016: BEC Industry Visit to Happy Valley Underground Stormwater Storage Scheme
BEC will host a visit to Happy Valley Underground Stormwater Storage Scheme (“HVUSSS”), a major flood prevention project in Hong Kong which demonstrates an excellence in combining sustainable building and green lifestyle.
The participants will take a closer look at this award-winning building including a structure of a 60,000m3 storage tank underneath the Happy Valley Racecourse. Various eco-innovative designs, such as automatic movable weirs, water harvesting system, and alternative foundation design will also be introduced during the visit.

3 June 2016: BEC Industry Visit to Green Facilities in Mainland China
During the visit, the participants were guided to tour around the Boluo Waste-to-energy Project operated by China Everbright International Limited (“CEI”), and learnt about the facilities with advanced technologies, such as odour and sewage management facilities which have complied with environmental standards. Besides, the participants visited Yantian International Container Terminals (“YICT”) to have a closer look at the shore power system, liquefied natural gas internal trucks and electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes utilised by YICT to help reduce pollution.
6 June 2016: Launch Event – GRI G4 and HKEX ESG Reporting Guide Linkage Document
The event was well-attended by over 90 participants, and inspired participants to get acquainted with “Linking G4 and the HKEX ESG Reporting Guide” (“the Guide”).
Ms Asthildur Hjaltadottir, Director Services of GRI, shared with the audience some tips on how to make use of the “Linking G4 and the HKEX ESG Reporting Guide” (“the Guide”) to save effort when using the GRI G4 Guidelines and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited’s ESG Reporting Guide to report sustainability performance. The audience were keen to raise questions regarding the reporting approach and shared the challenges facing during the reporting process.

17 June 2016: Setting Carbon Reduction Targets: A Science Based Approach
Mr Gareth Johnston and Ms Laura Pitkin of Carbon Disclosure Project, gave an overview of Science Based Targets, and introduced the process for implementing the Targets into their business. Dr Jeanne Ng, Director – Group Sustainability of CLP Power Hong Kong Limited and Mr Brian Johnston, Sustainability Performance Specialist of ASICS, were invited to share their experience on developing the Targets and the way forward.
The event aimed to help the business sector set their Science Based Targets, and encouraged them to take a leadership role in tackling climate change.
23 June 2016: Energy Efficiency Technologies & Services – Seminar and Mini-expo
This half-day event provided a platform for participants to understand more about the latest development of energy efficiency technologies and practices. The event started with a presentation by Ir KK Li, Senior Project Engineer at Environment Bureau, on how to meet Hong Kong’s 40% energy saving target from the Government’s perspective, followed by a series of talks delivered by business leaders and industry players.
A mini-expo was also presented concurrently, with ten exhibitors showcasing their energy saving technologies and services, and sharing their experience and ideas with participants. Participants gained better awareness and understanding of the trend in energy efficiency, and met potential business partners and industry experts.
28 June 2016: BEC Leadership Networking Series
A stimulating talk on the development of green transportation took place at BEC Leadership Networking Series on 28 June 2016.
Mr Patrick Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Inchcape North Asia & China, shared the types of environmentally-friendly hybrid cars introduced by the company. He also talked about the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts and its contribution to Diamond Cab, a social enterprise offering point-to-point transportation services for wheelchair users in Hong Kong.
Mr Alok Jain, Deputy Operations Director of the Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited, shared the company’s effort to reduce roadside emission by increasing the efficiency of current operations and adopting an environmentally-friendly bus fleet. He also highlighted the challenges faced by the company when introducing environmentally-friendly buses into operations.

Call for Applications - HSBC Living Business Awards 2016
This year the HSBC Living Business Programme does not only focus on the sustainability of an individual business or corporation, but also moves a step further to promote sustainability along supply chain. Under this Programme, the HSBC Living Business Awards 2016 is inviting companies with no more than 250 full-time employees in Hong Kong to join.
Besides, HSBC Living Business Sustainable Business Partner is newly introduced this year in recognition of the efforts between suppliers and business partners for incorporating sustainability along their supply chains. Companies with good practices in supply chain management are welcomed to nominate at least five of their business partners to participate in the HSBC Living Business Awards.

18 June 2016: “BEC Biodiversity Ambassador Training Programme: Marine Biodiversity Conservation” Closing Ceremony
The closing ceremony was held on 18 June and was followed by a 2-day roving exhibition. BEC Chief Executive Officer Mrs Christine Cheung, Senior Marine Conservation Officer of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department Mr Chow Wing-kuen, Chairman - Environmental Working Committee of Towngas Mr Victor Kwong, Assistant Director of Ocean Park Conservation Fund (“OPCF”) Ms Josephine Wong and over 90 participants attended the ceremony, among which 60 of them were the BEC Biodiversity Ambassadors from 14 schools, Towngas, PCCW and OPCF. Certificates were awarded to the BEC Biodiversity Ambassadors during the ceremony for appreciating their effort to spread messages about marine conservation to the general public.

BEC IEE Training Courses
BEC Institute for Environmental Education ("BEC IEE") will organise various environmental training courses during July to August 2016 as follows:
Towards Sustainability – Case Sharing on First Commercial Building to achieve BEAM Plus Provisional Platinum Rating (Existing Buildings) – BEC Headquarters (2nd Intake) (7 July 2016) – BEC Headquarters is the first commercial building in Hong Kong which has achieved the Platinum Rating of Provisional Assessment under BEAM Plus Existing Buildings ‘EB’ (V1.2). This course introduces some essential knowledge of design, planning and implementation for transforming an existing building to a certified green building. In the interest of promoting awareness of green building, BEC members who enroll before 2 June 2016 can enjoy buy one get one free course offer for their staff members who join the course together.
Best Practices for Waste Reduction and Management in Hong Kong (2nd Intake) (18 July 2016) – This 6-hour course will provide an overview of waste reduction and management in Hong Kong, and will review the roles that businesses and individuals can play in improving waste management and reduction.
ISO 14001:2015 Internal Auditing (3rd Intake) (21 and 22 July 2016) – The course is opened to companies that are interested in obtaining the knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of the ISO 14001 standard. The course will also introduce how to conduct a successful internal audit of an environmental management system and produce audit findings.
Seminar on Sustainable Forest Management and FSC Certification (3 August 2016) - This seminar, co-organised with BEAM Society Limited, gives you the essential knowledge of sustainable forest management, FSC certification and certified products, as well as the assessment criteria for related BEAM Plus credits. It is recognised as Mandatory CPD Seminar for BEAM Pro and BEAM Affiliate.
BEAM Plus Familiarisation Training for Contractors (6th Intake) (3 and 4 August 2016) – This course offers a comprehensive training covering the key areas that contractors need to know for managing their BEAM Plus responsibilities.
