Business Environment Council Hosts EnviroSeries Conference on “Eco-innovation in the Transition to A Low Carbon and Resource Efficient Economy”

Business Environment Council Limited 商界環保協會有限公司 (“BEC”) hosted EnviroSeries Conference at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong on 27 November 2015. The Conference brought together government officials, industry experts, business leaders and academics to discuss and explore eco-innovation technologies with a view to facilitating the sustainable development of Hong Kong.

Staged twice a year, EnviroSeries Conference is BEC’s flagship event that aims to provide a cross-sector forum to discuss and address key issues related to Hong Kong’s environmental sustainability and serves as a key initiative of BEC to enhance the exchange of knowledge and views. This Conference attracted around 150 participants.

In the Conference, BEC shared the vision of driving eco-innovation to boost a sustainable future and provided a platform for participants to identify opportunities in a transition to a low carbon economy through innovative solutions and technologies. 

In the morning session, following the opening remarks by Dr Eric Su, BEC Board Director and General Manager – Engineering, Hongkong International Terminals Limited, speakers shared their opinions and experience on green bonds, business model innovation, as well as sustainable buildings. In addition, Mr Elvis Au, JP, Deputy Chairman of the Environmental Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers acted as the moderator in the panel discussion session and discussed with the speakers the role of business sector in enabling the development and application of new technologies.  

The afternoon session featured topics relating to eco-innovation in the transport and logistics sector. Ms Patricia Woo, Political Assistant to Secretary for Transport and Housing of the Hong Kong SAR Government, introduced the Government’s policy framework in supporting low carbon transportation. Representatives from the industry were invited to speak on environmental and innovative initiatives implemented in the transport sector.
