Kingdom Fine Metal, Kai Shing Management Services, Kum Shing Construction and WKK Technology recognized as Green Champions in Hong Kong Awards for Industries in Environmental Performance

(19 January 2010, Hong Kong) Hon Donald TSANG Yam-Kuen GBM, JP, Chief Executive of HKSAR presented Kingdom Fine Metal (Kingdom Fine) the Grand Award of 2009 Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI) in Environmental Performance at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Kai Shing Management Services Limited (Kai Shing), Kum Shing (K.F.) Construction Company Limited (Kum Shing) and WKK Technology Ltd (WKKT) received the Performance Award. Eight companies were honoured with Certificate of Merit: HSBC Insurance (Asia-Pacific) Holdings Limited, Kin Yip (Huizhou) P.C. Board Company Limited, Langham Place (Mong Kok, Hong Kong), Ngong Ping 360 Limited, Sodexo (HK) Limited and The Dairy Farm Company Limited – ThreeSixty, The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited and Tsuen Lee Metals & Plastic Toys Co., Ltd.

Prof John Chai, Chairman of BEC said, “We are both proud and privileged to have organized the award for 18 years. The performance of the entrants has been truly inspiring this year. They represent shining business cases of sustainable development. It is important to publicly recognize our green leaders who have placed environmental and social responsibility as part of their business agenda. This award serves to celebrate their outstanding efforts in raising their own performance as well as the bar for industry, and in driving our economy towards sustainability.”

The Grand Award winner Kingdom Fine impressed the judging panel by their devotion in taking up environmental best practices during their business activities. By implementing various air pollution, energy and waste reduction strategies, Kingdom Fine has significantly reduced carbon emissions, industrial waste water and paper consumption. They also work closely with their clients and suppliers to share Kingdom Fine’s environmental management experience and green credentials. Staff from all-level is also engaged to understand and participate in the organization’s sustainability mission through a “Multi-dimension Environmental Friendly Project”.

Kai Shing received the Performance Award for the outstanding environmental performance of buildings under their management. Kai Shing has launched the “Property Intelligent Management System” to facilitate all properties to share information and accomplishments on environmental protection. They have also trained carbon audit professionals and formulated “5 Levels of Carbon Emission Reduction Approach”. Such measures enabled them to complete carbon audit for their properties and reduced carbon emissions.

Kum Shing is another winner of the Performance Award. In addition to their successful implementation of the ISO14001 accredited Environmental Management System, Kum Shing has developed an Environmental Protection Roadmap of forthcoming strategy for enhancing corporate environmental management performance. Sustainability initiatives covering energy management, eco-training and green supply chain management will be implemented in different stages continuously.

WKK Technology also received the Performance Award. They place high concern towards Environment Health and Safety performance in product life cycle by providing one-stop green manufacturing covering eco-design, green procurement and clean production, etc. WKKT also introduced a computerized work flow that reduce paper use and identified Greenhouse Gas footprints based on ISO14064 standard to seek for continual improvements in carbon emissions reduction.

Prof Chai congratulated all the winners and entrants for their remarkable green efforts. “You are all environmental leaders and ambassadors who advocate what difference every industry can make by committing to sustainability. We look forward to our continuous partnership in advancing Hong Kong’s sustainable development.”
