BEC reviews HKEx's CSR policies and practices

(8 May 2008, Hong Kong) Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) appoints the Business Environment Council (BEC) to conduct an independent review of the existing corporate social responsibility (CSR) policies and practices of HKEx, and to carry out a green audit of HKEx's operations. The review is expected to be completed in about four months.

HKEx believes that good management of CSR is required to meet the evolving social demands in today's business environment. With a view to further enhance its CSR measures and to develop appropriate sustainable CSR practices, HKEx issued a Request for Proposal for the review back in February. Interested candidates were interviewed and assessed by an internal evaluation team which made a recommendation to the HKEx Executive Committee for its approval.

BEC is pleased to be appointed for the project. As a leading business organization advocating business case for sustainable development, BEC has been providing numbers of programs, trainings, conferences, and consultancy services in corporate sustainability.

CSR is a new and evolving corporate management model and it is an alternative to the traditional growth and profit-maximization model. While CSR recognizes corporate growth and profitability are important, it also requires the corporation to pursue societal goals, especially those relating to sustainable development – environmental protection, social justice and equity, and economic development.

BEC have helped many leading companies in Hong Kong to develop their CSR programs, we would be happy to navigate with you through your CSR journey too.
