(10 January 2008) Business Environment Council (BEC) will stage the 2007 Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI): Environmental Performance – Awards Presentation Ceremony at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 23 January. Hon Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, is to honour 12 companies for their outstanding green performances. Initiated and led by BEC, HKAI: Environmental Performance aims to recognize Hong Kong enterprises in both industrial and services of all sectors that exemplify outstanding environmental achievements.
Dr Andrew Thomson, Chief Executive Officer of BEC said, "The quantity and quality of entrants have been truly inspiring this year, representing industrial and services companies of various sizes and sectors. These companies present countless examples of the business case for sustainable development. They have embraced best practices beyond regulatory compliance integrating aspects such as resource efficiency, pollution prevention, waste minimization and community engagement from strategy through operation."
Global climate change has become both a challenge and opportunity that every corporate citizen has to address. Our award entries and winners have taken essential steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve every aspect of their service and products' life cycle. It is important for business to step up their green efforts towards sustainable development.
The Award assessments covered entrant's attributes across their achievements on pollution prevention, waste reduction, resource use, legal compliance, staff and community engagement. The Judging Panel was an independent one comprising of Hong Kong and overseas experts from various industry, business and educational organizations.
