BEC IEE Training Courses

BEC Institute for Environmental Education ("BEC IEE") will organise various environmental training courses from August to October 2015 as follows:

Comprehensive Certificate Course for BEAM Plus on Indoor Environmental Quality (“IEQ”) 2015 (3 to 24 August 2015, every Monday and Wednesday) – As one of the BEAM Plus performance categories, IEQ encompasses the conditions inside a building and their effect on occupants. This intensive training course is jointly organised by ASHRAE Hong Kong Chapter, BEAM Society Limited, BEC IEE, Building Services Operation and Maintenance Executives Society with the aim of sharing fundamental concepts, BEAM Plus requirements and practical information on industrial applications. This is a Mandatory CPD course for BEAM Pro and BEAM Affiliate.

Technical Seminar on ASHRAE 90.1 Energy Standard & Engagement in Energy Performance (26 August 2015) – Advanced building technologies and energy-efficient designs could boost energy efficiency of buildings significantly. This course, co-organised with ASHRAE Hong Kong Chapter, will cover advanced energy-efficient building technologies, address the opportunities and challenges in meeting the requirements of new energy codes and “beyond code” programmes (e.g. LEED, Green Globes), and highlight the latest changes of ASHRAE Standard 90.1:2013.

Towards Sustainability – Sustainable Building Management (11 September 2015) – Effective sustainable property management practices are very important for maximising energy and water use efficiency in both new and existing buildings.  This course offers up-to-date information and best practices on sustainable building management.

The Application and Regulation of Environmental Impact Assessment (“EIA”) and Strategic Environmental Assessment (“SEA”) in Hong Kong (9 October 2015) –EIA is an essential process to ensure that environmental factors are considered in every stage of project planning and development. The EIA Ordinance provides the legal framework for applying the EIA process to designated projects in Hong Kong. With a higher level of public scrutiny and increasing use of judicial reviews to challenge the EIA process, what will be the future development of EIA? This 6-hour course aims to keep the business sector abreast of essential knowledge of EIA, SEA, and related statutory requirements in Hong Kong.

Visit BEC website now for outlines and schedules of BEC IEE courses. Please contact Dr. Veronica Chan (T. 2784 3937 | E. beciee@bec.org.hk) for registration and enquiry.

APP increased availability of Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification certified products

Asia Pulp & Paper Group (“APP”) has offered a greater range of Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (“PEFC”) certified products. Following the endorsement of the Indonesian Forestry Certification Cooperation (“IFCC”) by PEFC in October 2014, two plantations of APP’s suppliers recently received the first batch of IFCC-PEFC certification for sustainable forest management. Over 1,000,000 hectares of plantation are in the final stages of IFCC-PEFC certification.

Ms. Aida Greenbury, Managing Director, Sustainability of APP, noted an increasing demand for sustainable and certified products, as well as the company’s effort in developing IFCC and ensuring its alignment with globally recognised standards. Ms. Greenbury added that consumers could be assured that APP’s products were certified, traceable and could support sustainable forest management.
