Consultation on Revised Sustainability Reporting Guideline
BEC organised an interactive workshop to discuss the updated sustainability reporting guideline, the/sites/default/files/enewsletter/G4-Exposure-Draft_0.pdf G4 exposure draft, which was issued on 25 June 2012 by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) for public comment. The workshop saw around 50 members discussing the key changes between the G3.1 and G4, and obtaining insights and opinions around the challenges of fulfilling the new requirements. Members also expressed their views on whether BEC should respond to GRI’s public consultation document on behalf of its members.
Facilitated by Hendrik Rosenthal, Director – Policy & Research of BEC, the workshop had expert speakers Glenn Frommer, Chief Sustainable Development Manager of MTR Corporation, and Simeon Cheng, Group Environmental Manager of CLP Holdings. Two more consultation workshops will be organised by BEC to discuss areas of significant changes with its members towards the end of August. Don’t miss our event calendar for more information!

Green Delight in Estates
Aiming to raise environmental awareness in the general public, BEC partners with the Housing Authority, the Conservancy Association and Friends of the Earth (HK) in organising a large-scale community environmental programme “Green Delight in Estates”. From roving exhibitions and workshops on green living to collecting and recycling of food waste and glass bottle, BEC will organise a year-long series of sustained and in-depth educational activities in 10 selected public rental housing estates in the coming year. The programme will be officially kicked-off at a launching ceremony on 10 August 2012. Stay tuned for more updates on our newsletter!
Invitation to LOOP Labelling Scheme 2012
Are you working in a low-carbon office? Established to encourage Hong Kong companies and organisations to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated from their office operations, World Wide Foundation (WWF) developed the Low-carbon Office Operation Programme (LOOP) in 2010. Offices wishing to be awarded LOOP certificate are required to uphold a 4C principle – Commit to act on climate change, Calculate GHG emissions generated from office operations, Cut down GHG emissions, and Communicate carbon performance internally and externally.
Applications are accepted all year round but verification by third party, such as BEC, only takes place from May to August of every year. Take action to become part of LOOP family now! For enquiry, please contact Konnie Yu (konnie@bec.org.hk)

CCBF Research – The New Normal: A Hong Kong Business Primer on Climate Change
What will climate change do to your business – how can you prepare for it, mitigate its risks and even profit from it? Climate Change Business Forum is researching just these questions for a study tentatively entitled The New Normal: A Hong Kong Business Primer on Climate Change. In July, CCBF researchers collected views from six Hong Kong business sectors on climate change impacts and adaptation actions. Set to publish online in the fourth quarter, the study aims to build the case for climate change adaptation by raising awareness among Hong Kong corporations about how a changing climate can affect them.
Technical Seminar – The ZCB Story: Process, People and Performance
Hong Kong’s first zero-carbon building will be opened to public in the third quarter of 2012. In a technical seminar held on 2 August 2012 with The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management Hong Kong Branch, about 40 people heard from MK Leung, one of the creators of the state-of-the-art eco-building, and found out how the integrated design and advanced technologies help achieve the seemingly impossible. From enhancing liveability in the outdoor environment to implementing indoor energy-efficient systems, the event gave participants the first glimpse of the greenest building in Hong Kong.
