To support companies and avoid duplication of efforts to report against different standards, GRI has developed a Linkage and Gap Analysis Document between the HKEX ESG Reporting Guide and GRI’s Sustainability Reporting Framework (G4). This Document reinforces the compatibility of the two reporting guidelines, and ensures consistency for organizations using both methods for reporting. It allows organizations to use the same data points in both reporting channels. The information provided through either channel can form part of a sustainability report using the GRI G4 Guidelines and/or to fulfill the requirements of the HKEX ESG Reporting Guide.

The call for more corporate transparency and accountability is growing apace. Governmental bodies, market regulators and financial institutions worldwide are increasing their advocacy for more legislation and policy in requiring companies to provide corporate sustainability information.

To support companies and avoid duplication of efforts to report against different standards, GRI has developed a Linkage and Gap Analysis Document (named as ‘Linking GRI and HKEX - How to use the HKEX ESG Reporting Guide in conjunction with GRI’s G4 Guidelines, hereafter referred to as ‘the Document’) between the HKEX ESG Reporting Guide and GRI’s Sustainability Reporting Framework (G4).

The Document would be beneficial to all listed companies for a number of reasons:

  • It helps embed sustainability strategy within rooted in international standards.
  • Companies can demonstrate their commitment and actions in terms of policies, processes and disclosure.
  • Companies can provide stakeholders with focused, comprehensive and credible information about sustainability impacts and performance.
  • It helps to standardize sustainability reporting.
