Workshop 4 Program:

In this workshop, participants will

  • Hear expert views on what can be done to minimize the carbon footprint of construction and construction materials, as well as how to approach low carbon procurement for the sector. Experts joining the discussion are Ms Anne Jacobs, BASF, Ms Amie Shuttleworth, Cundall, and a speaker from Construction Industry Council.

BEC is conducting a project, supported by BEC Climate Change Business Forum Advisory Group, titled Low Carbon Hong Kong: Supporting Business to Set Targets. The current phase involves working with the property and construction sector through a Property & Construction Working Group to set targets and strategies aligned with the Paris Agreement. All BEC members from these sectors as well as those who are occupiers of significant sized properties are invited to take part.

Through the working group and its activities (set out below), businesses will develop an understanding of the level of ambition at which targets need to be set to be aligned with the Paris Agreement as well as jointly investigate ways of meeting these ambitions. The group will also seek to identify enhancements to public policy needed to support business action on this front.

A series of workshops will be convened to take this group through a process of collectively solving problems, capacity-building, and developing long-term business strategies towards the climate change challenge. For more background information, please see BEC's Low Carbon Hong Kong Report: Supporting Business to Set Targets.
