Prof Stephen Tang from Steve Leung Design Group will share his insights as a practitioner on pursuing and achieving Wellness Design in offices, residences and restaurants etc., in alignment with the standards set by the International WELL Building Institute TM (IWBI). This session will also include a presentation from IWBI Asia to share the latest features and accreditation of WELL and provide insights on how projects can be successfully implemented in WELL certification under the “Healthy China 2030 Plan” in China.

Wellness Design is the new key benchmark in the design industry, and paired with Green Design, can create a healthy environment whilst protecting the planet. We spend 90% inside buildings, and interior designers have a duty to deliver environments that support occupant health and well-being.

Prof Stephen Tang from Steve Leung Design Group will share his insights as a practitioner on pursuing and achieving Wellness Design in offices, residences and restaurants etc., in alignment with the standards set by the International WELL Building Institute™ (IWBI). This session will also include a presentation by Ms Samantha Allen from IWBI Asia to share the latest features and accreditation of WELL and provide insights on features and solutions are implemented to achieve WELL certification under the “Healthy China 2030 Plan” in China.

Speakers

  • Prof Stephen Tang, BBS, Principal Consultant, Steve Leung Design Group Ltd

    Professor Stephen Tang, the former Deputy Director of Architectural Services, has joined Steve Leung Design Group Ltd. since 2017. As the Principal Consultant with over 30 years of experience in architecture, urban planning and design, he assists the Group in Wellness Design covering various approaches including in-depth investigation, training, design review and project assessment, in a broad range of design projects and categories.

    He is currently the Chairman of Prince of Wales Hospital Subcommittee on Capital Works, overseeing the redevelopment of a HKD 30B teaching hospital towards wellness design. He is the Advisor of Countryside Conservation Office of Hong Kong SAR Government, a non-official member of Urban Design Advisory Group of Planning Department of Hong Kong SAR Government. He is also the Advisory Committee member of the Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Adjunct Professor at both the University of Hong Kong and Chinese University of Hong Kong on Urban Planning and Urban Studies Programme respectively, and he was the President of Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design (2016 – 2018).

  • Ms Samantha Allen, MPH, WELL Faculty, WELL AP, Director, Market Development, IWBI Asia

    Samantha Allen is a Director of Market Development for IWBI Asia.  She supervises the overall market development, education around and greater adoption of the WELL Building Standard™ and WELL Community Standard™ in the Asia Pacific region.

    Samantha joined IWBI with a body of experience from her background in scientific research, particularly her expertise in public health. Previously, Samantha was a research and development manager with the Delos Labs team at Delos, IWBI’s parent organization. She assisted in the evaluation of technologies and building materials for safety and efficacy, and helped impart an understanding of science to others by translating scientific research into a language that can be understood by a wide range of audiences. Additionally, she was involved in the development of operations for the Well Living Lab in China.

    Samantha specialises in environmental science and organizational policy, as well as toxicology. She obtained her Master of Public Health in Environmental Health Policy from Columbia University, and received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Vassar College, New York.
