Mr Wayne Wong
Senior Officer – Policy & Research, Business Environment Council

Mr Wayne Wong is currently Senior Officer – Policy & Research at Business Environment Council (BEC). He is part of the Policy & Research Team that focuses on a range of research and business collaboration projects, policy submissions and advocacy, publications, and events on topics such as climate change, buildings energy efficiency, transportation, and waste management. He is involved in a variety of research projects, including Improving Data Transparency in Buildings Energy Performance and Investing in Buildings Energy Efficiency: How to Enhance Hong Kong’s Policy Framework. He also provides secretariat support to BEC’s Sustainable Living Environment Advisory Group. He graduated from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science.

Mr Cees Boon
Senior Safety Advisor, Harbout Master's Policy Dept, Port of Rotterdam

Cees Boon started his career with the Port of Rotterdam Port Authority in 1983 as inspector for dangerous and noxious goods for the Division Harbour Master. He has ample experience in this field and hands-on experience. At present he is LNG safety expert of the Harbourmaster Policy Department and advisor of the (State)harbour Master of Rotterdam.

He has been involved LNG developments in the Port of Rotterdam and is responsible for the safety framework and rules for the LNG bunkering in the port for seagoing and inland vessels. For this purpose he is working closely with other (port) authorities, international regulatory authorities, LNG branch organizations and shipping companies. Cees is an active member of several workgroups within the IAPH, SGMF, INTERTANKO, IMO-GIA, WPCAP, and many more.

Nowadays Cees is involved in the Energy Transition program of the port of Rotterdam with the task to establish, in addition to LNG, an internationally accepted harmonized safety framework and guidelines for ( STS) bunkering of methanol, (Liquid)Hydrogen and Ammonia.

Mr Tom Strang
Senior Vice President, Maritime Affairs, Carnival Corporation & plc

Tom Strang is Senior Vice President, Maritime Affairs for Carnival Corporation & plc.  He has spent 20 years in Carnival in a variety of senior roles, and among other things he is responsible for developing and implementing a group wide strategy for the supply of new low emission fuels for the next generation of cruise ships under order, starting with LNG.  He also represents the Carnival group with various maritime and governmental authorities in Europe and other regions relating to marine and technical regulatory activities, including decarbonisation.

Tom began his career as a Naval Architect with Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Ltd and then moved to Lloyds Register where he rose to the level of senior passenger ship specialist before joining Carnival in 2000.  Since then Tom has been involved in various areas of the business including new build, policy development, compliance and operations.  Prior to taking up his current role, Tom was SVP Marine Operations at Costa with responsibility for marine and technical operations, manning and newbuilding for the Costa fleet.

Tom is currently chair of the ICS Passenger Ship Panel, the UK Chamber of Shipping Safety & Environment Committee, the CLIA EU Environmental, Safety and Security Advisory Committee and the Royal Institution of Naval Architects Environmental Committee.  He is a member of the board of the UK Chamber of Shipping, SEA-LNG, SGMF and the Royal Institution of Naval Architects.

Married with 3 children his hobbies outside of work include sailing and motorcycling as well as looking after his grandchildren.

Mr Roberto Giannetta
Chairman, Hong Kong Liner Shipping Association

Roberto Giannetta has 30+ years of service in the shipping industry.  Having served as director of system development, financial controller, executive director, and now Chairman for shipping agreements and associations, he has a vast cross-reference of knowledge in shipping practices across Asia.

As Chairman of the Hong Kong Liner Shipping Association, Roberto represents the interests of container liner principals on numerous industry and governmental organizations (including APEC Shipping Port Network Security, Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board, Article Number Association, and others) covering operational, safety, environmental, regulatory, trade, and policy matters vis-à-vis government and industry stakeholders.  With a board of directors comprising CEO and MD level representatives from major shipping lines serving trades to/from Asia and the rest of the world, Roberto has a well-guided understanding of shipping liner needs, objectives, and environment. 

Mr Simon Ng
Director – Policy & Research, Business Environment Council

Mr Simon Ng is Director – Policy & Research of Business Environment Council. He is responsible for BEC’s work on policy advocacy, thought leadership development, and collaborative research on various environmental issues that BEC focuses on. Trained as a geographer, Mr Ng is known for his ground-breaking work on ship emissions inventory in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta in which his collaboration with the shipping industry led to the launch of the Fair Winds Charter. He is also well regarded for his research and engagement work on walkability.
 
Mr Ng has over 20 years of experience in academic/policy research, project management and stakeholder's engagement. Before joining BEC, he was Chief Research Officer of a leading independent public policy think tank and was a visiting scholar of a top university in Hong Kong.
 
Mr Ng is also a member of many professional bodies of transport & logistics and environmental management. Internationally, Mr Ng is an Expert Member of the UNCRD Regional Environmentally Sustainable Transport Forum in Asia since 2006.
