The Institute for Climate and Carbon Neutrality of The University of Hong Kong and Business Environment Council organised "The First Hong Kong Climate Forum – Greater Bay Area Climate Action and Cooperation" on 25-26 March 2024. This forum representseda significant milestone in highlighting Hong Kong's pivotal role as a hub for climate research, green innovation, and finance, while fostering connections between the Greater Bay Area and the global community.

In 2023, Governor Gavin Newsom of California made a joint announcement with the University of Hong Kong during his visit, stating that the inaugural Forum will take place in 2024. "The First Hong Kong Climate Forum – Greater Bay Area Climate Action and Cooperation" aimed at creating a platform for insightful exchanges and collaboration by attracting a diverse and distinguished assembly of global experts, business leaders, and government officials from the Greater Bay Area and other countries.

The agenda for 25 March featured inspiring keynotes by national and regional leaders, high-level policy dialogues, and discussions on climate research, climate finance and carbon markets, and clean technology innovation.
