We are looking for a highly motivated and organised individual to join our Policy & Research team. The ideal candidate will be a proactive team player with a strong background and interest in environmental policy, research and stakeholder engagement, and exceptional event coordination and logistical skills.

 

Policy & Research Team (P&R Team)

The Business Environment Council (BEC) P&R Team supports the organisation’s commitment to improving Hong Kong’s environmental performance and transition into a sustainable and net-zero society for the benefits of Hong Kong. Through the development of thought leadership, the publication of quality research papers and the transfer of knowledge, the P&R Team aims to inform and facilitate policy dialogue among major stakeholders and influence evidence-based public policy conducive to BEC’s vision and mission.

 

In our policy research and engagement work, the P&R Team collaborates closely with the Government, the business sectors, tertiary and research institutions, civil society groups and the wider community. We also provide secretariat support to BEC’s four advisory groups (AGs) on climate change, energy transition, circular economy, and nature and biodiversity, the three environmental focus areas (EFAs) under which BEC develops its research and projects. This Officer role is central to this mission, providing comprehensive logistical, administrative, and research support to the Climate Change Business Forum Advisory Group and assisting with the secretariat functions for the other three AGs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Meeting & Event Coordination

  • Coordinate all logistical aspects of meetings and projects related to Climate Change Business Forum Advisory Group and assist three other advisory groups
  • Manage attendee communications, including invitations, registration, and follow-up correspondence

Programme Administration & Stakeholder Support

  • Administer the BEC Net-zero Carbon Charter help-desk function, serving as the primary contact to handle daily enquiries from signatories and the public
  • Maintain accurate records and databases for Climate Change Business Forum Advisory Group and Charter signatories

Project & Research Execution

  • Compile background information and analyse data to contribute to research projects
  • Draft initial versions of research reports, presentations, and meeting minutes for review
  • Execute assigned tasks (event, workshops, research, etc.) to advance key initiatives, tracking progress and reporting on deliverables

Creative Support

  • Design and produce professional graphics and layouts for event materials, presentations, and reports using Microsoft PowerPoint, Canva, etc

General Team Duties

  • Process related financial administration, including invoices, vendor payments, and expense reimbursements in a timely manner
  • Provide hands-on support during major BEC events as required
  • Perform other operational duties as assigned by the Line Manager

 

Requirements:

  • Passionate about environmental, sustainability and public policy issues
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant discipline (e.g., Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Public Policy, Sustainability, or a related field)
    • Required: 1 to 3 years of relevant work or research experience in environment issues or public policy, with demonstrated knowledge in climate change / carbon management /  carbon target setting
    • Preferred: Familiarity with one or more of the following areas: nature, waste management, circular economy, clean energy, sustainable transport, smart city, and / or green buildings
  • Able to manage complex event logistics, multiple vendors and stakeholders, and strict timelines
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement preferred
  • Self-motivated, a good team-player, creative and innovative, good problem-solving skills, flexible and able to work under pressure
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Good written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and/or Putonghua) an advantage
  • Proven organisational and multi-tasking skills, attention to detail and capacity to deliver in a timely manner
  • Proficient in MS applications particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Canva (or related platforms)
  • Candidates with proven experience, qualification and track record may be considered for the Senior Officer position
