Hong Kong, 13 April 2016 - Business Environment Council Limited 商界環保協會有限公司 (“BEC”) today released its first Sustainability Report. The report explains how BEC furthers its vision of promoting environmental sustainability to support the transition to a low carbon society through its work around four focus areas: Stakeholder Connection, Environmental Advocacy, Policy Contribution and Knowledge Transfer.
Covering the financial year from 1 October 2014 to 30 September 2015, the report details BEC’s vision and mission, strategic direction, activities and accomplishments, and its social, environmental and governance performance.
BEC Chairman Prof John Chai said, “Our first sustainability report represents an important milestone in BEC’s journey to manage our own social, environmental and corporate governance performance, as well as to enhance communication with our stakeholders. Acting as a platform for engagement, we will continue to bring together the Government and business sector to share ideas, perspectives and solutions on sustainability issues.”
“Through the full and open disclosure of our activities and achievements, BEC aims to inspire other organisations of a similar size and nature to do the same,” Prof Chai added.
BEC’s first Sustainability Report has followed and applied the Global Reporting Initiative (“GRI”) G4 framework in accordance with the “core” option and with the GRI principles of accuracy, balance, comparability, completeness, materiality, reliability and timeless. The Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) Reporting Guide of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (“HKEx”) and the GRI NGO Sector Supplement have also been used as references. BEC is one of the few non-profit organisations in Hong Kong committed to such levels of disclosure.
