22 September 2016: BEC Anniversary Dinner 2016
BEC will host its Anniversary Dinner on 22 September 2016 at JW Marriott Hong Kong. We are honoured to have Mr KS Wong, GBS, JP, Secretary for the Environment of the HKSAR Government, as the Guest of Honour of the Dinner.
The Dinner is a major occasion for our fellow members and guests to review BEC’s key initiatives in the past, preview the opportunities ahead, and network with like-minded sustainability leaders. We expect that over 300 guests, including senior government officials, business executives, fellow members and partners, will join this celebration.

25 August 2016: BEC Leadership Networking Series
The August event invites Mr Prashant Vaze, Chief Planning and Trade Practices Officer, Consumer Council to talk about consumers' attitudes toward purchasing sustainable goods and services, and how a good energy labelling system can help consumers use their purchasing power effectively. Mr Hon-Meng Wong, Assistant Director (Waste Reduction & Recycling) of Environment Protection Department, will share the Government's latest policy of green procurement and examples of green specifications in Hong Kong.

2 September 2016: BEC Industry Visit to District Cooling System at Kai Tak District
The District Cooling System (“DCS”) utilises sea water to supply chilled water to centralised air-conditioning system for commercial buildings in Kai Tak new development area. DCS helps save 85 million kilowatt-hour in electricity consumption each year, and reduce 59,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions at the same time. In this visit, participants will have a closer look at DCS.

5 July 2016: Responsible Investment Workshop - Taking Into Account Climate Risk
This workshop explored why and how asset managers and investors should take into account risks relating to climate change impacts as well as carbon intensity in their investment decisions, with a wide range of speakers from the finance sector as well as listed companies on BEC Climate Change Business Forum Advisory Group. Hong Kong’s Green Finance Working Group report on making Hong Kong the regional hub of green finance was discussed as well as the nature of reporting required on the part of listed companies to enable climate risk to be factored into investment decisions.
7 July 2016: Reducing Roadside Emissions - Carbon and Air Pollution Workshop - Enhancing the Policy Framework
This half-day workshop brought together the government, business leaders, non-government organisations and industry professionals from Hong Kong to discuss and identify the policy framework needed to minimise roadside emissions. It included a discussion of policy measures on four aspects of the transport system: Private Vehicles & Taxis, Public Transport, Trucks & Delivery Vehicles, and Walking & Cycling. Views expressed from participants at the workshop will be taken into account in writing the report on the policy framework, which will be prepared by BEC’s Roadside Emissions Taskforce, part of BEC Transport & Logistics Advisory Group.
8 July 2016: BEC Industry Visit to T ▪ PARK
Over 30 participants joined the visit to T·Park, the first sludge treatment facility in Hong Kong that helps reduce 90% of the original sludge volume produced in Hong Kong every day. Participants were impressed by the unique self-sustained power generation and self-sufficient in water supply to achieve zero effluent discharge. The visit to the spa pools, which are supported by the heat energy recovered from the sludge incineration process, was also a highlight of the tour.
20 July 2016: BEC Lunchtime Seminar - Scaling up Leadership in Sustainability: Systemic Solutions & Shaping the External Context
Ms Stephanie Draper, Deputy Chief Executive and Executive Director Asia Pacific, Forum for the Future presented and led a lively discussion on how businesses globally are scaling up leadership in sustainability. She explained how businesses globally are beginning to lead and collaborate to find systemic solutions and shape the wider external landscape often driven by the need to address “pain points”. She also highlighted some specific initiatives around meeting the challenge to obtain sufficient plant protein as well as responsible recycling of ships. Special thanks to The Hong Kong Jockey Club for inviting the speaker and sponsoring the venue.
29 July 2016: BEC Industry Visit to Happy Valley Underground Stormwater Storage Scheme
In the visit to the site of Happy Valley Underground Stormwater Storage Scheme, participants learned more about innovative systems that have been implemented in the site to collect and treat underground and irrigation water for non-potable usage. We would like to express our appreciation to Drainage Services Department for their guidance in this visit.

BEC IEE Training Courses
BEC Institute for Environmental Education ("BEC IEE") will organise various environmental training courses during August to September 2016 as follows:
BEAM Plus Familiarisation Training for Contractors (6th Intake) (3 and 4 August 2016) – This course offers a comprehensive training covering the key areas that contractors need to know for managing their BEAM Plus responsibilities.
Regulatory Compliance for Environmental Legislation of Hong Kong (3rd Intake) (7 September 2016) – This course provides participants with up-to-date information on major environmental ordinances in Hong Kong covering air pollution control, noise pollution control, water pollution control, waste disposal and environmental impact assessment.
How to Operate Your Business/ Organisation in a Socially Responsible Way? An Introductory Training of BS ISO 26000:2010 (2nd Intake) (22 September 2016) – This 6-hour course, co-organised with BSI, provides basic concepts of implementing and managing a social responsibility programme in accordance with ISO 26000:2010, an international guidance standard on social responsibility. The course also introduces seven core subjects that users of ISO 26000:2010 need to consider.

Hong Kong Observatory’s "Climate Change - Our Response" Roving Exhibition
The Hong Kong Observatory is now organising a rowing exhibition entitled "Climate Change - Our Response" for the Science in the Public Service campaign. The exhibition aims to show how different stakeholders could work together to build a low-carbon and sustainable society in three main aspects namely mitigation, adaptation and resilience.
