Business Environment Council Limited Welcomes the Launch of the Hong Kong Climate Change Report 2015(只有英文版本)

Hong Kong, 13 November 2015 - Business Environment Council Limited 商界環保協會有限公司 (“BEC”) welcomes the Hong Kong Climate Change Report 2015 (the “Report”) released by the Environment Bureau on 6 November 2015.

The Report outlines the joint efforts of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the key private-sector stakeholders in responding to climate change.  BEC believes that the comprehensive and detailed climate change risk assessment in the Report helps give business and the community a clearer picture of Hong Kong’s vulnerabilities to climate change, and complex scientific issues such as sea level rise and rainfall patterns.  By bringing together actions of different governmental bureaux and departments in one document, the Report can enable business to understand the extent of measures on climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience, and provide an indication of our current position and laying the foundations for a discussion on what more needs to be done to embark on a low-carbon path.

Over the last two decades, BEC has been proactively advocating environmental excellence in Hong Kong.  Our Climate Change Business Forum Advisory Group (“BEC CCBF AG”), promotes the awareness of climate change, mitigation and adaptation activities amongst its membership and generally amongst the business community in Hong Kong.

Mr. Eric Chong, Chair of BEC CCBF AG said, "We welcome the Government’s leadership role on climate change, developing a policy framework and measures which are critical to Hong Kong's future.  BEC CCBF AG has taken on a number of initiatives including survey and topic research to help business understand the impact of climate change.  BEC CCBF AG is going to release our Hong Kong Climate Resilience Roadmap for Business, which strives to explain what climate change will mean for Hong Kong businesses as well as how close collaboration between the Government and community will make our city resilient to maintain its long term competitiveness."
