HONG KONG, 30 September 2011 – Business Environment Council (BEC) held a high level conference today at the JW Marriott Hong Kong. Business leaders and representatives from the academia and NGOs convened to discuss and explore the possibility of developing an energy-efficient transportation infrastructure and logistics network for Hong Kong.
Participants from different industry sectors sponsored and contributed to the discussion, such as Hong Kong Electric, Hongkong International Terminals, KMB, Modern Terminals, Scania, Siemens Ltd. Hong Kong & Sun Hung Kai Properties, etc.
In reflection to the theme of the forum, Dr James J. Wang, Head of Department and Associate Professor of Department of Geography from Hong Kong University presented the global trends in sustainable transportation and the factors that are affecting its development.
Dr Kelvin Leung, CEO, North Asia Pacific, DHL Global Forwarding shared the relationship of sustainable development and infrastructure in their logistics sector. Mr Evan Auyang, Deputy Managing Director, The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. provided the business case on electric buses. Mr Bruno Charrade, Managing Director of HK Tramways shared the impact of modern tramway systems on cities sustainable development. Representative from Siemens Ltd. China talked about the call for adopting an integrated and holistic approach in face of the megatrends that is intensifying mobility challenges. All of the speakers have shown their views which may lead Hong Kong to develop better and more sustainable urban planning and transportation network.
