Business Environment Council Announces Retirement of Chairman Mr Stephen Fong and Appointment of New Chairman Professor John Chai(只有英文版本)

(21 December 2009, Hong Kong) Business Environment Council (BEC) today announced the retirement of Mr Stephen Fong as Chairman of BEC following the Board of Directors Meeting on 17 December. At the same time, Professor John Chai was elected by Board of Directors to succeed Mr Fong as the new Chairman of BEC with immediate effect.

“On behalf of Business Environment Council, we would like to extend our warmest gratitude to Stephen for his visionary leadership, tireless efforts and valuable contribution extended to the Council these past few years. We wish him all the very best as he moves on to his next chapter of life after retirement”, said Dr Andrew Thomson, Chief Executive Officer of BEC.

Professor Chai said, “I am both privileged and honoured to be elected as the Chairman of BEC. I look very much forward to this new and important role. I will continue to work with fellow Board Directors and the professional team at BEC to promote the business case for sustainable development to the broader business community, while sharpen BEC’s strategic focus and core areas including Climate Change, Habour-front Enhancement, Green Building, Energy Efficiency, Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility, and serving our growing membership base.”

Professor Chai joined BEC as Board Director since February 2004. He is a very visionary and forward looking green entrepreneur. Under his leadership in these past years, Fook Tin has won numerous environmental awards including twice the Grand Award in Environmental Performance of the Hong Kong Awards for Industries. Fook Tin is the first company in the world to be certified with IECQ QC 080000 HSPM (an International Electrotechnical Commission Quality Assessment Scheme for Electronic Components Industry) in 2006.

He is Managing Director of Fook Tin Group Holdings Ltd and a Member of the Supervisory Board of its wholly owned subsidiaries - Terraillon SAS (France), Scaime SAS (France) and Arpege Master K SAS (France). He received the degrees of Master of Jurisprudence and Doctors of Law from Loyola University Chicago, Master of Science from Northwestern University. He is currently a Professor Emeritus of Northwestern University.
