BEC Members Visit: Green 18(只有英文版本)

Twenty-two BEC members visited the newly built Green 18 at Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) on 12 October.

The visit began with an introduction by Mr Andrew Tan, the Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP. Then it was followed by Mr Ben Lui, Vice President – Projects and Facilities, who gave an overview of Science Park Phase III. He shared the objectives of Phase II of HKSTP, where Green 18 locates.

Mr Edwin Wong from Simon Kwan & Associates shared the master layout plan of Phase III and its design concept. Mr Wong and another consultant Mr Julian Bott, Principal of Cundall, shared the sustainable design features of Green 18. They also compared the Green 18 with other buildings in Hong Kong including Tamar Building and Hysan.

BEC members from various companies, including representatives from land developers and construction companies commented on the presentations and showed their keen interest in the development of green buildings in Hong Kong.

The participants toured in Green 18, which was awarded by BEAM Society for achieving the provisional rating of platinum standard. On the ground floor of Green 18, the guests tried the interactive kiosks, which explained the functions of various green features in the building. The wind turbine located in the rooftop garden and the mirrors installed for the reflection of the sunlight also aroused the interest of the guests. The guests were also given the chance to check out the fascade and double Low-E glass with cross natural ventilation in the building and learnt how they function in different weather conditions.

Special thanks to HKSTP for their generous support and detailed and professional explanation of their design of the Green 18. BEC will continue to arrange monthly visit to encourage dynamic exchanges of best practices among our members.
