Our Earth’s climate is rapidly changing. Rising sea levels, extreme heat waves and excessive rainfall poses increased risk to our environment and the community. In order to preserve the environment for future generations, the HKSAR Government has developed new measures to address climate change and carbon neutrality. In this webinar, hear from property developer, Hongkong Land, AECOM, and other industry experts on how they are working together with the government to build a climate-resilient Hong Kong.

Dr Thomas Tang
Executive Director - Land Supply / Municipal, AECOM

Dr Thomas Tang has over 25 years’ experience in advising public and private sector organizations in sustainable change and innovation. He has been a consultant, corporate director and volunteer in different fields of sustainability including climate change, green technology, urban design, stakeholder engagement, low carbon living and social impact.  He has written books and numerous articles as well as spoken on his views at international forums on topics related to sustainability.  In 2015, he set up and ran the award-winning KL Centre for Sustainable Innovation in Malaysia.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, an Urban Scholar for UN’s Global Compact Cities Programme, an Advisory Board member of the Enactus initiative in Malaysia, a past Advisor to the HK Council for Sustainable Development, and past President of the Institute of Management Consultants (Hong Kong). As well as holding the position of Executive Director in AECOM specialising in sustainability, ESG, social innovation and green buildings, he is an Adjunct Professor for the City University of Hong Kong where he lectures on ESG and sustainability.

 

 

Mr Ryan Lee
Technical Services & Sustainability Manager, Hongkong Land

Ryan is a Sustainability/ ESG professional passionate to strive for a more Sustainable community through collaborative efforts with different stakeholders. He has 20 years of experience on Sustainability management, including from policy setting, strategy development to final implementation at both building and community levels at different life-cycle stages, i.e. planning, design & operation. He has involved in more than 60 Green Community and building projects in Southeast Asia and a number of his projects received international Green awards and certifications.

Ryan is now working with Hongkong Land as a Technical Services & Sustainability manager to drive Sustainable development at both Group and Property Management levels. He leads the team on conduct climate risk assessment across Hongkong Land’s commercial portfolios in different regions.  He has also proactively been supporting Green Business Groups on promoting sustainability practices, including BEC’s Advisory Groups (AGs) since 2012, Hong Kong Green Building Council and BEAM Society.  Before joining HKL, he was a Team Leader of Building Sustainability in an international design firm, Arup for Sustainable community development, Green building design and certification.

 

 

Ms Jessica Chan
Head of Sustainability, MTR Corporation

Jessica is the Head of Sustainability of MTR Corporation responsible for formulating sustainability strategies and driving sustainability initiatives for the company. She developed a corporate Climate Change Strategy and leads regular review of climate risks and controls for different business units. Recently, she has formulated a long-term decarbonisation roadmap and carbon reduction targets for MTR, and developed a set of KPIs to gauge and drive the company’s performance in a wide range of sustainability aspects.

Jessica is a seasoned sustainability professional with over 20 years of experience in environmental and corporate sustainability with diverse expertise in sustainability strategies and policies, sustainability communications and disclosure, regulatory compliance, stakeholder engagement, and emerging sustainability issues. She is a member of various international and local sustainability-related committees including UITP’s Sustainable Development Committee and HKGCC’s Environment & Sustainability Committee. Jessica is also a member of the Board of Examiners of HKMA’s Hong Kong Sustainability Award.

 

 

Ms Julie Wong
Assistant General Manager, Sustainability, NWS Holdings

Julie is the Assistant General Manager, Sustainability of NWS Holdings, a conglomerate with core businesses of toll roads, commercial aircraft leasing, construction and insurance, while the strategic portfolio spans sectors from logistics to facilities management.  She is responsible for driving and implementing sustainability for the company.

Julie is an experienced sustainability professional who specializes in Corporate Sustainability Strategy and implementation, from both corporate as well as consultancy perspectives. Prior to joining NWS Holdings, she was a management consultant, providing advisory services for listed companies in Hong Kong on corporate sustainability strategies development, ESG reporting, assurance and due diligence, with sectoral experience ranging from manufacturing to retailing, property development and management, hospitality, aviation and etc.

Julie is a BEAM Pro and LEED AP, and an IRCA Environmental Lead Auditor. She holds a Master degree in Energy and Environmental Studies from Boston University, Massachusetts, United States and a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

 

 

Ir Dr Shelley Zhou
Adjunct Associate Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering, HKUST

Shelley holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the National University of Singapore and a Master of Philosophy degree in Civil Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Shelley opened a carbon management course in 2010 and currently is the Adjunct Associate Professor at HKUST.

Ir Dr Zhou, a dedicated sustainability professional, has over 18 years’ experience in corporate sustainability, environmental and carbon management consultancy, new energy and biotechnology in Hong Kong, China and Singapore. From 2016 to 2019, Ir Dr Zhou was Chief Executive of the University of Edinburgh Hong Kong Centre for Carbon Innovation responsible for driving innovation business development and research projects in Hong Kong. Prior to this, she helped establish the sustainability function of The Hong Kong Jockey Club and has been in charge of delivering the Club’s strategic sustainability performance and reporting for seven years.

Ir Dr Zhou currently leads ESG services in APAC for Capco and she is an expert advisor at a leading ESG and carbon consulting firm in Hong Kong. As an independent consultant, Shelley has led and delivered numerous carbon consultancy projects in Hong Kong, Mainland China and Singapore, covering government, banking, financial, real estate and retail sectors.

Ir C.F Leung
Director – Operations, Business Environment Council

Ir Leung currently is the Director – Operations of BEC. Ir Leung has spearheaded the development of sustainable buildings by leading and providing consultancy services on a large number of green building initiatives and providing training to building professionals. He also works on waste-related projects by providing waste management and audit services for building sector and community events.

Ir Leung has also been involved in formulating and executing several renowned environmental award programmes, including the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence, the HSBC Living Business Awards, and the BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards.

Prior to joining BEC, he worked in an international consultancy firm and an acoustic specialist company, where he gained solid experience in project management and execution of infrastructure projects.

Ir Leung is currently Chairman of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management Hong Kong Branch. He was appointed a Green Building Faculty Member and Chairman of the IEQ Expert Panel.
