The Power Up Coalition is a sectoral initiative co-launched by BEC and Gammon Construction Limited to encourage the timely electrification of construction sites of non-public works projects in Hong Kong, reduce the use of diesel generators and equipment, and promote zero-emission construction sites. Regular events and workshops are organised to support existing and potential Power Up members on decarbonising the construction industry.
Guideline and Tool for Temporary Electricity Application
One of the most effective means to decarbonise the construction industry is to electrify construction sites by replacing diesel gensets with temporary electricity supply. To assist project proponents and their teams in the preparation and application for temporary electricity from the power companies during the planning and design process, a guideline and a tool with simple forecasting approaches of power demand and information on early application of temporary electricity have been developed.

Power Up Pledge
The Power Up Coalition asks companies to sign a Declaration and commit to promoting and facilitating the early delivery of sufficient electricity connection for all Hong Kong SAR construction sites no later than the commencement of superstructure contracts which are planned to commence on site no later than one year after the date of signing.
The signing companies also commit to supporting or implementing the following on-site decarbonisation opportunities where possible:
- Transition to become 100% diesel generator-free;
- Wider use of mass battery energy storage;
- Provision of EV Charging infrastructure;
- Improving energy efficiency and driving behavioural change;
- Support of further electrification and greater use of electric plant and equipment;
- Use of lower carbon alternative fuels where electrification is not possible, e.g. biodiesel, natural gas or hydrogen;
- Installation of renewable energy systems; and
- The use of green finance to support these options.
