BEC's Response to The 2019-20 Budget

The 2019-20 Budget was announced earlier today (27 February 2019) by the Financial Secretary. BEC is pleased to note the Government’s plan to prepare for the inaugural issuance of the government green bond, allocate an extra HK$1billion funding for departments to install renewable energy facilities, enhance public electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and conduct a stakeholder consultation for electronic road pricing. These initiatives are in line with BEC’s recommendations set out in our policy submissions for the 2018 Policy Address and the 2019-20 Budget.

BEC, however, would also like to stress on the importance of providing financial resources to further improve buildings energy efficiency, support waste management and extended producer responsibility, and galvanise business climate action, which is missing in the Budget.
