About BEC

Business Environment Council Limited (BEC) is an independent, non-profit membership organisation, established by the business sector in Hong Kong. BEC is also a tax-exempt charitable organisation under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance (Cap 112).

Since its establishment in 1992, BEC has been at the forefront of promoting environmental excellence by advocating the uptake of clean technologies and practices which reduce waste, conserve resources, prevent pollution and improve corporate environmental and social responsibility. BEC offers sustainable solutions and professional services covering advisory, research, assessment, training and award programmes for government, business and the community, thus enabling environmental protection and contributing to the transition to a net-zero economy.

What type of organisation is BEC?

BEC is the longest running independent, non-profit organisation in Hong Kong promoting corporate, social and environmental responsibility. It was founded in 1992 by key business leaders to discuss and identify appropriate initiatives to address environmental problems in Hong Kong. The name BEC was formally adopted in 2000.

Who runs BEC?

BEC is led by a Board of Directors, which provides strategic direction. Daily operations are driven by a team of executives and professionals under the leadership of the Chief Executive Officer. The members of the Board are elected by our members, and our executive and professional team comprises full-time staff, who develop and implement appropriate policies, programmes and services to ensure that BEC's objectives are met.

What services does BEC offer?

BEC helps companies achieve high environmental standards and facilitates knowledge sharing in the business sector, with the aim of advocating environmental protection amongst our members and the broader community, and adopting clean technologies and practices to reduce waste, conserve resources, prevent pollution and improve the environment.
